Finished playing around with my first woods. I got a test kit of Sitka spruce shafts from Mark at Tradbits consisting of 2 X 50-54#, 2 X 55-59# and 2 X 60-64# spine shafts. These were going to be for my Jim Jones Firefly Longbow which is 50#@25". I internally footed each shaft with 75gr of brass rod to get a bit of weight forward. The shafts were given one coat of black stain which still allowed the grain to be highlighted then 3 coats of satin estapol. They were crested with a very light grey spray can. 3 X 5" shield cut and black knocks. I have a 50gr wood screw adapter up front to make it easier to bare shaft with different field points which will be replaced with the equivalent all up weight field point and broadhead. All up weight is 610gr with 125gr points. After a bit of bare shafting the 55-59# spine shoots the best so I will now make up a proper dozen. Had fun making these and will probably end up sticking to woods if the final dozen work out ok.

That looks great mate!!!

I find it really relaxing to disappear into the shed to make up a dozen wooden shafts...especially when you can walk out with something that looks like this!!!
