Me and my mate had been planning this for a whole week and the day had come...

I woke up at 7:30am and got ready and headed down to the local wharf
to get picked up by my mate dom. We decided to go to the rip bridge and have a fish under there for a while...soon as dom droped his line down he was already on :P but a little fish it was..a small snaper so he let him go.
after i was setting up the little rod dom lent me (because mine is a deep sea rod) i dropped the prawn down till the sinker hit the bottom and i was on..after winding about 30m of fishing line, the little snapper was put back in the water for more years to come..

Anyway it was getting around 9:30am so we headed of to this little shop to buy some pilchards and a few more packets of prawns and some squid and a refreshment :).We then made our way to a place called "box head" to give the pilies a run for there money. As we got out past Ettalong it was getting rough but that didn't stop us, when we got there we dropped the anchor and also dropped down our lines..it started to pi$$ us off catching allot of these rock cod (annoying bastards they are) we spent about half an hour in that one spot and we were catching nothing but little rock cod, so we decided to head back down to Ettalong for a go for some flatty along the sand drop offs..we riged up our lines and i decided to give the squidgies ago..after giving the squidies a run we were getting sick of this calm relaxing stuff so we headed out to sea!:D

After a rough way out we seen a heap of birds out in the distance having a feed on the live bait which there were a heap of salmon there too..and no one out there..so we headed there as quick as possible to give the salmon a run.
as we got there there was one boat there giving them ago and scaring them off, we got pi$$ed of because we were trying to get our lures out there as quick as possible but it didnt work out and the salmon disapeared..anyway we stoped and fixed out selves up because we were a mess lol..

We then stood up on our chairs and scouted! dom said julz julz i found them!
we then went straight out to the salmon then we casted out the lures and wound them in really fast..WACK im on to a very nice sized salmon these things sure do have great fight, after a minute we got him in the boat with our first good eater for the day..but that wasnt the last.
i casted out again but with no luck, but dom yelled out a huge whoooo hooo
and he was on to a great salmon..we couldnt get over the fight of these buggers...he got the fish in the boat and we searched and then picked them up again, a big cast was needed and i was onto another one again!!
at this point i was too happy and too excited and the fish was off :(
but that didnt worry me, there were that many.

Dom casted out and wound in real fast and he was hooked next to the boat! the drag was running nicely and he was stoked for his second.
at this stage we lost were they were so we stood up on our chairs and scouted again...i spotted them about 100m towards land and we headed there with no trouple...as we got there the salmon were jumping out of the water and i launched my lure straight at them and started reeling her in...WHACK another one on...this is heaven! after 2 minutes of fighting we got him in the boat..at this stage we were running low on petrol and had to get out of there before the hands would have to do the work:rolleyes: we both had a bloody good time and cant wait to get back out and hit em hard again with abit more planning :) here are a couple of pics ;)

Nice Sambo's mate.

I was down the beach today and there where schools everywhere. They where very shy but.....Due to the white sharks and dolphins giving them some curry. We had whites cruising not 10m from the shore, ranging in size from 50-250kg. We counted 9 in a space of about an hour, them whites sure love their sambo's!

Keep them toe's out of the water!!:o

To an extent...

Its usually the bull sharks or big whalers in the dirty cold water.

Had a spearfishing comp on last weekend, got schooled by about 2000+ 2-4kg salmon. Couldn't shoot your gun without hitting one. ( i still managed though)
They are bloody quick when they know your after them!

As far as eating them, ever heard of boiling one with a rock?

Yeah they're not too bad provided you've got nothing else to eat. Make sure th eblood line is out though, as thats the part that makes the fish taste bad!

Oh, and when the rock goes soft, you eat the rock!! :P

When i caught my first salmon on stockton beach, thats what my mates dad told me...

Tell you what, if your keen for Kingfish, flathead, bream, whiting, snapper and about 30+ other species, then get into spearfishing! Its amazing and so easy to bag a good feed. You also choose what your want, rather than a lucky dip!
