Gaday fella's...I think this has been asked before but i'll ask it again...what are your thoughts on the prime time of day to hunt Deer...
Is it out there before daylight and get them coming off feeding and heading back to there bedding areas....Middle of the day while they are bedded down or in the evening and ambush them when they are heading out to feed????
Regards...Sparra

Depends on the hunting pressure and time of year.

With plenty of hunting they turn nocturnal, low hunting pressure either first thing in the morning on the way back to the bedding areas, or late afternoon on the way to the bedding areas.

During the rut they seem to stay out later in the mornings and come out earlier in the evenings.

I prefer to arrive at the popular trails, on the way to the bedding areas, before dawn and stalk to the feeding areas.

The Deer don't seem as wary at this time as in the evening.

Its gotta be early or late in the day (like anything really) as the deer tend to be out and about a bit more. I preffer the morning as you have no pressure to make a stalk like you do if the light is fading in the afternoon. having said that if you know where they are bedding then maybe getting them mid morning might be the go

I have always liked early morning but I like to be where I want to be before first light, and late afternoon is good also. I like to hunt early morning when there is a big fog, red deer are more approachable in a fog when you locate them and rainy days are good too as they seem to kepp out of heavy cover when it's raining...Glenn...

In the field dark leaving and dark coming. But depending on time of year area and presure really. Always seen best numbers on all my haunts early morning.

I agree, mornings seem to be better in my opion. Firstly, because normally the ground is moister and therefore quieter, and secondly, if the deer have been feeding all night and hence awake, then it makes sense that they would be less wary than in the arvo when they have been resting up all day..
