I decided to make a small knife from a hand plane blade I had lying around . I had an image of a short deep blade with a gut hook and a goat horn handle with buffalo horn bolsters . The bloody thing took me 3 1/2 days of hand filing , cuts , blisters and bad language and gotta say for my first knife I am pretty happy . I only used my bench grinder for for the rough profiling and the metel never got too hot to hold in my fingers .

I learned a new respect for those of you that polish knife blades . I decided after 3 hours on wet and dry sandpaper and not geting the all scratches out that its a work knife and not a show piece . I did give it a patena finish with a soak in vinegar overnight .

While I was following a series of links on knife blanks I found a site "Esford" a medievil reinactor supply mob that had cheap Damascus cutlery . Further investigation showed it was made in India . A mate payed them a visit and was reasonably impressed with the quality of there blades so I decided to buy this small Damascus hunting knife - bone handle nice file work on the back of the blade and best of all [ almost a surprise ] it takes a good fine edge . Not bad for $50.00 in my veiw .

No sheaths yet , I'm working on them will post when I have them done . regards Perry
