Hi all,
From another thread I read that a new member got his first bow. I remembered when that happened to me, about 20 years ago, I remember how happy that made me at the time. Naged mum for 9 months to get it. That got me thinking do other members remember their first bow, what was it and do you have fond memory of it?

Bow Setup:
Pearson Rogue 60# 30 in draw, It had the thick plastic trislot wheels and it was all black.
Ortford ceader arrows with 4 inch fletch
Plastic arrow rest.
Martin 5 pin sight with the brass screw pins

Memory:
Very fond, dozens of arrows shot at telephone books in the back yard (12 metres) especially in spring after school or summer holidays, out the back yard all day.

My own first bow was a second hand wooden Yamaha recurve, around the 35 pound mark. Yellow fibreglass arrows and POC woods, think I was about 13 or 14 years old. Target was hay bales, carpet packed inside cardboard. There is still some holes in the parents garage wall, that was nearly 30 years ago, how time flies...........Howie

I remember I got my first one from Sagittarius Archery and I remember what it looked like but that is about it. I don't remember what I ever did with it. I am pretty sure I didn't sell it. May have left it at a mates place or lent it to some one at some stage.

Loved the bow and had a lot of fun with it. I was shooting fingers then with alloy shafts most of the time and timber shafts for practice. Only extras I had were whiskers, bow quiver and stabilizer.

I some times wish things were as uncomplicated these days.

My first was a second hand Yamaha recurve too. Bought it about 20 years ago and owned it for a couple of years. Red laminated, dont know what poundage it was, but it was as bare as you could get.

Got pretty accurate with it too. Untill one day, desperate for some cash, I flogged it off cheap. Missed it ever since.:(

Hopefully I'll pick up a new setup ths weekend, if all goes well.

My first 'real' bow - saved up for a bout 4 months when i was about 15 and bought it from the local sports store in Bundy.

A York "Boss".

I still have it today and it is still my absolute favourite bow to shoot.

Here are a few pics.

My first bow was a Proline compound, 55# black and grey camo limbs and black chunky cast riser. Not knowing any dif I thought it was great, that was until I shot some other bows at the club a couple of months later.
Thats when I realised it was a sherman tank.
Sold it to fund a 2002 Hoyt Magnatec which I still have, but for how much longer I don't know.

My first bow was about 21 years ago a 40# recurve just a cheapy. Was shooting ducks in a swamp and birds in the fruit orchard. Stopped after 2 years just about when compounds became real popular, I couldnt afford 1 when all my mates brought them. About 5 months ago brought a friends 10 year old Blue mountain Trex of him. The limbs ended up delaminating so brought a new Martin. Now totaly addicted again.

Dad and I found a Keith Herron 25# piece of Aussie bowmaking history just after I finished a beginner's course at Bowmen of Frankston... about (gulp) 30 years ago. Bought it and some Firefly arrows (remember those?) from a nice elderly lady from Box Hill archers. Sold it when I got my Hoyt TD2B. Last year I bought the same Keith Herron (pictured) from EPray on a nostalgic whim. Nice to have it for memories. How many still have their first bows?

Yeah i can remember the no forgiveness, twanging, hand shock, creaks, arm slapping peice of S#%T !!! but never the less i still have it in the hunting room hung up on the wall with the other 14 bows that i have accumulated over the years. I got it from a garage sale when i was with dad when i was around 11 or 12 years old. thats 23 years ago, gee time does go bye. She was a mean peice of gear in her day & i was the man in our neighbourhood back then with this bad boy. It's a Outers Blazer, draw length 29-31 (hense the string slap at 12 years old) Draw weight of 35 lbs, but could be set from 45-60 lbs. Still took the hair of a few bunnies & even scored my first bow shot Boar with it. Still have the hooks as well from that baby, got him out around Mooie way.

Early 90s. It was a Redline compound, about 20pound & 13fps...

Lasted about a week before being replaced.. So the sickness began...
