View Full Version : Arrow rests
I'm new to this sight, and ive just bougth a bowtech tomkat, and ive put on a whisperflite matchgrade drop away and found that my flights keep hitting the rest, so i was thinking of getting a new rest and was looking at the shoot throughs. I just would like some thoughts and opinions about what would be a good rest, ive been looking at The NAP quicktune 800, 1000 and the 3000, i was just wondering if you could point me in the right direction any help would be muchly appreciated
Hi Bud, I had the same rest and the same probs..so I ended up cutting off the "prongs" of the rest to leave just the "V"...or you could just go for another rest...I am using a "whammy" and have no probs..or for simplicity you could try a whisker biscuit style rest...Cheers.......;)
yeah ive tryed a whisker bisuit and found it annoying to take the arrow out of the rest without doing to much damage to the whiskers
how loud is the whammy rest compared to the whisperflite rest
yeah I've tryed a whisker bisuit and found it annoying to take the arrow out of the rest without doing to much damage to the whiskers
What the.......never had that........I assume yours didn't have the easy load cut away section ?? and re the Whammy...unlike the Alpine..it doesn't hit the shelf so noise is negligible..and as the rest cord attached to the "up" cable and not the "down" as the Alpine..the cord is slack at full drawer and there is no tortion exerted on the cable...thus far I've had no probs with it..:P
Thanx, mate is it easy to set up and wheres a good place i can purchase one

Why not use the rest made for Bowtechs, the Diamond Hostage? This link is the 2007 version, the 08 has been redesigned to give more clearance for bazers.

Mate i got the rest from Antony at Gecko on the Gold Coast. They are real easy to set up & it's the first drop away that i have ever used. Took about 2 seconds to set up for centre shot & elevation.

The Doty Expert 1 Drop-away rest features micro-adjustment, "Cord Lock" secures the cord to the rest without knots, provides quick and easy length adjustment, dual cord attachment points for pulling with either cable or cable slide - your choice. Comes with arrow holder and has rubber at contact points.
Real nice & easy to set up. As fot the removal of arrows from Whisker Bicky, just slide shaft through the same way it's going to come out if shot, no damage at all to the whiskers. I have one on my mathews & has worked for me with out any damage on it.

The main wear would be on the bottom set (Antony has put a lot of arrows thru his without significant wear as yet,) so you can then rotate the other two until all three are worn (will take a while) then under $20 for a new set. The rest is the quietest Ive heard. Antony from Gecko has his on the Diamond Black Ice and you can only hear the whistle of the arrow.
ok thanx do you know anything about the limb driver rest, is it quiet, any help would be nice

i was going to get a qiuke tune 3000 but found it to expensive for us, i just got the 800 and i reckon its one of the best arrow rest that you can get for the price.

Sankey,
I did a lot of research on shoot through rest befores I settled on the Diamond Hostage arrow rest.
The best 3 I found are:
NAP 360
Drop tine QR whisker biscuit
Diamond hostage
The reason why I chose the Hosage over the others is bang for buck and simplicity. The hostage is about $60 dollars and does the job very well the other two are substantially more expensive. The brissles will last a long time because fletch does not hit it (i'm using blazers). Did not like the hard palstic post on the NAP as I thought arrow sliding on bristles would be quieter than carbon sliding on hard plastic.
I hope this has been helpful and thanks for reading.

Mate, I had a Whisper flyte rest on the Ross for a while and had no clearance problems with it.
Most problems associated with clearance on a drop-away come from the timing of the lift of the prongs.
If you get them to raise to maximum height in the last 2" of the draw cycle you shouldn't have any problems with contact.
How I did this, on my Ross, was to tie the cord tightly, but not so tightly as it wouldn't slip slightly when at full draw, then draw the bow and tie it on where it stayed after slipping.
This takes a lot of guesswork out of estimating draw cord length and cord positioning on the down cable and usually takes out contact from the prongs on the vertical plane, if you have your arrow height parellel with the Burger hole (or on a Ross slightly higher).
Lateral contact would come from vane orientation or incorrect centreshot adjustment causing contact on the cables
thanx, i am still considering other drop away rests so any imput on one that has worked for any one in the past would be helpfull and what do yoiu think of the whammy because it isnt to expensive and is it really really quiet any help on this subject would be helpfull
Re the: "Hostage Rest" unlike a WB rest, it seems to me that it would be real easy for your arrow to slip off the support bristles and make a "clank" when it hits the plastic/metal surround of the rest..notwithstanding the other sets of bristles, or is there something in the design to prevent this ??
