View Full Version : Bouganville fishing bow
Ha People, I thought i would post some pics of a bow i brought while on deployment over in Bouganville in 2003. I have never used it as i think its more for show than shooting and im scared it might snap if i did so it just hangs on the wall.
Cheers

That's a nice looking bit of gear Hamish. I have a similar looking bow to that one as well and around 18 arrows...Glenn...
Have you ever used it Glenn?
I have never strung mine up at all Hamish but I have reworked one very old black plam bow down years ago. The bow was very heavy and after a day of hard work we were able to draw the bugger, but it still weighed in at 60#@28. I can't imagine how the origional owner strung the thing let alone shot it. The bow shot really nice, it was very quick as well, I wouldnt mind getting some black palm for selfbows. Black palm does grow in Australia...Glenn...
Would love to know what wood mine is made of. It was already strung when i brought it. I did draw it about 10in's and it felt heavy but im a bit scared to pull it to 28in.

Don't know what yours is made from with the binding on it. I have flexed mine a couple of times and it feel very stout, don't want to risk drawing mine. Mine is bound as well and similar arrows to yours as well, some have heads the detatch from the shaft, ment for humans I thing ans some have heads md from hardwood...Glenn...
Yeh my points look like some type of hardwood that would pull out of the bamboo shafts aswell. I am thinking the points are made out of the same wood.
