hunt or be hunted

had a crave to go for a bunny hunt today but i wanted to see how many i could get using the compound and not the recurve.
firstly i sighted in one of my good arrows with a judo and headed for the plateau. before i could reach the plateau i came to a creek and spotted a big bunny run to his warren and stop, i carefully drew back and put my 20 pin low on his chest and released, it sounded like a hit but there wasn't any movement so i guessed i misses. i nocked another arrow and went to take a step forward when i noticed a medium sized rabbit sitting up facing away from me, i took two steps closer and had a shot as he turned broadside, i shot and he droped to the ground but wasn't hit...if only i had a third arrow:(. i looked into the dry creek where i had flung the first arrow and saw it sitting there and i though yay i didnt lose it, i walked over and was suprised to see it through a big bunnys head:eek:. after i put him up in a tree i moved on. i walked into the shade of a handful of big old gun trees and thought, there must be bunnys getting out of the sun under here, sure enough i walked about 20m when two smallish bunnys came wandering out towards me, straight away i drew and they pulled up, again the 20 pin was thrown onto the closest ones chest and the arrow was away thwak! he tumbled over got to his feet and made a bee line for his burrow luckily i made it there at the same time and was able to grab the arrow and finish him off. again he was hung in a tree and i moved on.
walking to the top of the plateau had the legs pumping and reaching the flat was releaving. as i walked through some trees i watched the back end of a bunny dissapear intot a small bunch of thissles, on my way past i spotted its head stopping in my tracks and coming to full draw i placed the top pin low and released thump! it bunny burst from its bed and jumped around for a bit only stoping when it became lifeless. the cloest tree was a good place to hang the little guy.
it was a fair old walk to where i got the next shot off, i found a nice little spot in the shade and was hoping a bunny would come out to join me. i wiggled around to get compfortable and managed to spook a bunny from its bed about 12meters to my left i watched it run to its warren and i could just see its ears sticking over a rise, then a rabbit came out to my right only about 8meters away in some see through blackberrys, i didnt take the shot just incase it was bad and i would most likely have lost my arrow. i watched the other bunny calm down and hop over to another bed in the shade above its warren, i got into position and thought if it presents a clear shot i will take it, after a minute or two the bunny walked out into the open and was sunning itself broadside, perfect, the string came back and the arrow was away, crack! he bunny fliped around and then took off down the hill, i was hot on his trail and grabbed him as he started to roll around, after a quick finish off i could see that the judo has smashed off the front of its face...very bad shot. he was put onto my belt and the walk home began.
i thought to myself ''why not just have a quick look over that rise'' so i did and thank god for that, i watched a bunny slowly walk along at the bottom of this short but steep hill. he stoped and i had a shot from around 12meters, the arrow hit a bit low and it jumped into the open, a second shot was had just shooting over its back, both arrows gone and the bunny was went and sat in some thissles only 4meters away from my good arrow, the thought of catching it with my bare hands crossed my mind but i didnt like the idea of punching my hands through thissles to grab a kicking rabbit so i very slowly snuck over to my arrow, nocked it took a step closer spotted its ears and aimed a tad low and released. all i could see was a twitching leg and i knew it was a good hit, i pulled him out and was happy to see i had put in a perfect chest shot.
on the way home i collected all my bunnys and got dad to take a pic of me and a good hours bunny bust.
thank's for reading.
