I use this method to cap and crest my wooden hunting arrows. First I stain them and apply a coat of spray lacquer.

While the white lacquer was drying, I built a makeshift cresting machine using my cordless drill.

These arrows will have cresting that was white, black and silver.

I start with the black stripes.

And then the silver bands.

Wraps are nice and easy but for a more custom look, I like to do it this way.

gday mate, arrows look great! i made a cresting jig using a little electric motor, some skateboard bearings with dowl in the center of them, 2 side by side almost touching makes a near perfect V to eliminate the arrow wobbeling. the motor drive a rubber band in the center of the shaft. the arrows have been turning out really bloody nicely. The only trouble i have had is getting the feathers to stick. Have you put a clear coat over the top of your crest? And are you using enemal model paint? your help in my delema would be much appreciated.
cheers D1cky

Hey those woods look great, i am also about to do my own. I am making a cresting jig that uses my spit motor from the BBQ. spins nice and slow. And to sit the shaft in i have routed out a v groove in a piece of 30mm jarrah that sits on top of a length of ply that is 100mm x 19mm x 900mm, nice and simple and easy to replace.

Top work Rancid - you don't need expensive store bought jigs - your set up works great - nice smooth work .
