The weekend saw my hunting mate Rin and I having a closer look at the property that we had been invited onto from our previous hunt. Undeterred by the miserable wet conditions we commenced the trek down the shear slopes comforted by the sounds of goats bleating from down in the valley below. Unfortunately they continued to elude us until we spotted two decent billies near the bottom of the valley. As Rin was after some nannies for meat and I was more onto the billies we separated and I commenced my stalk onto the billies that required some very tentative crawling around some wet and slippery rock faces above them to come in up wind from them. As luck would have it although oblivious to my presence they elected to wander further down into the valley and it was then that I spotted a decent size mob about 100m to my left. A closer inspection revealed several billies, however, none of any particular note and I decided to have a crack at the biggest one in the bunch. After another cautious crawl trying to avoid the abundance of thistle, I got into position only to have a "rogue" nanny show a little too much interest in me. As she was about 20m I slipped an arrow through her chest and she dropped on the spot. It was then that I spotted the billie I was after and at 25m and quartering away, a 125 gr slick trick put him down. I then commenced to wander back to where I had agreed to meet up with Rin only to see him with a grin from ear to ear and carrying a plastic back with more legs sticking out than a chorus line. He had managed to down 5 nannies and had the 10 legs. I will leave Rin to fill in the details and post a pic if he took any.

That left the very arduous and slippery slog uphill lugging the spoils and after about 80 minutes we made it back to the car, very soaked, physically spent but very satisfied. It was then back to the local for some refueling of frothy vitamin B and a distribution of some of the legs to the locals.

The new property seems to be a real winner!!:P After I seperated from Johnno and left him to stalk some "bone" I headed to where I could hear some goats further down and around the hill. I managed to stalk onto some goats near the bottom of a gully where I picked out a good sized nanny and put a broadhead right through the boiler room. She went about 4m and then just dropped the other goats were interested in why she was just laying there and had no idea that I was there. I then picked out a smaller nanny and again the First cut two bladed broadhead did its job. I took the back legs from both goats and then headed towards some noise coming from down further in the gully. I ended up shooting another 3 goats and again I took the back legs from the goats and at this point I put the release aid away and started the walk back to meet Johnno.

I found Johnno, with a beaming smile, waiting for my return. He proceded to tell me about his stalk and kill while some good sized goats were busy grazing below us. He had a chuckle at all the goat legs hanging off me and promptly dubbed me "10 legs", he offered to give me a had carrying them back but I declined his offer as I wanted to get them out on my own.
I shoot them I carry them. After what seemed a never ending journey we made it to the top, Johnno commented "great effort but gee you're a stubborn pig headed Italian". I ended up in pain the next day.

I gave a goat leg to a bloke in town for his dog while another went to the lady who owns the pub in town and as a thankyou she let stay in a room at the pub for nothing. The other 7 legs went to a friend at the archery club who won't eat meat from farms etc and she paid me $80 for the legs so I could buy new arrows and go get more legs.:P I have found in the last year or so a greater desire to hunt game that I can take some meat from rather than a trophy. I get more satisfaction these days from my hunting when providing food for someone rather than a trophy or photo opportunity this is not a shot at trophy hunting but it's just where I am with my hunting at this point in time. :)
