While Canada is mostly North of WI. There are parts of Canada that are South of WI, because of this, we have some very cold weather for a long portion of the year. Our warm summer months are between June and September. Summer temps can reach 105 F and winter Temps can go as low as -40 F. Wisconsin is mostly flat (no Mountains) and is mostly farming country, Dairy and beef cattle as well as produce like corn and potatoes. I grew up on a potato Farm. Because it is so cold for a long portion of the year, there are no poisonous snakes or insects to worry about. We do however have wolves and a few cougars.

I work for General Electric as a Mechanical Designer. We make Diagnostic imaging devices such as x-ray, CT and ultra sound equipment. I am married and have 2 teen aged sons who also hunt with a gun but not yet with a bow and arrow.

Bowhunting in WI is mainly for white tailed deer but we also bowhunt for Black bear, Turkey, Coyote, Small game and fish. In WI, the legal hunting age is 12 years old but we are considering lowering hat age to 10. I started bow hunting in 1976 but did not harvest my first deer with a bow until 1978.

Since that first deer with the bow, I have harvested 34 more and 65 other deer with a gun. Our deer can weigh from 70 pounds to 250 pound depending on the age of the animal and whether or not it is a male or female

Here is one of the first gun bucks I tagged back in 1976

I have also harvested 3 black bear with a bow. My largest was a 450 pound boar that met the Pope and Young record book requirements. That was back in 1989

All of my deer and bear were taken with a compound bow but last year, I switched back to traditional gear using a homemade bow.

There is no hunting during the summer months so we go fishing in the fresh water lakes. I prefer to fish for salmon.

In the winter time, we still fish but we do it while standing on the ice through a hole we cut.

In my spare time, I am a game processor/sausage maker as well as a hobbiest knife maker. I also make custom arrows and other archery equipment. I also enjoy Native American culture so I made a Tipi that my family uses for camping trips.

Welcome to TBGA mate.
I've really enjoyed your posts so far, it's good to see how you blokes do it in your part of the world and I hope you continue to share with us.

I reckon your meat processing set up would be the envy of many an Australian deer hunter, it's fantastic.

G'day Ron,
Some very informative posts, nice work.
I especially like the pic of your first bow-shot deer, it takes me back to when I was a kid with my Browning Explorer, they were a nice little bow, Is it a I or a II ??, it's a bit hard to tell from the angle.
Thanks,
Grant.
