View Full Version : Advice on buying first recurve

Hi everyone i posted this in the general chat area but was told id have more luck here. well here goes.
I'm 15 and looking to buy a recuve (first one) my draw length is around 28'' and i'd like something between 40-50#. Ive only ever owned compounds, but have done courses with recurves. Any info would be much appreciated

Jezza what I would do if I were you mate is go along to a club or a shop that has a range and shoot as many recurves as possible before parting with your money. Don't overbow yourself, better to go 5# under that 5# over, biggest mistake most traditional shooters make is that they are over bowed...Glenn...

Thnks Glenn I don't suppose anyone know's of any good stores that stock recurve bows in the wide bay. I've looked around but still havn't found any.

Hey guys, im in almost the same positio as Jezza here. the only thing is that i already own a recurve but want to upgrade. i curently own a cherokee 60" ($100 job i got for chrissie 3 yrs ago)

Anyway, the string broke this arvo jst when i had a prime shot at thebiggest hare i have ever seen. i thought bugger this, time to upgrade. any advice? all is welcome!

If you are looking for a new recurve, look at the Samick Talon.

I have owned one and think they are excellent value for money.

Mine was a bit noisy new, but after putting some felt under the limb pockets and some wool balls in the string, it was very quiet.

Some people have found that their Talons stacked a bit over 29" but mine was smooth to my D/L of 28.5".

Accuracy was as good as any hunting recurve that I have shot.
