View Full Version : Diamond Black Ice - Draw Length
G'day all
I ordered the above bow at 28", it appears (bad writing) to be 29" written on the limb sticker. I was informed that it is 28".
However, it feels too long still. Does anyone know if you can get a different module to reduce the draw length again ? Really frustrating me as I have to have the release aid half way up my palm, and when drawing, its hard to get fingers behind trigger without bumping it at low tension.
The guys at the shop reckon its 28" and it's the right length for me etc, however they say I am tilting my head back to look through the peep.
For a trial, I'm going to draw and anchor with my eyes closed to test whether its me focusing on the peep. As well as draw with fingers as I did on a confirmed 28" bow. To see if its very similar in arm length/distance etc.
Any opinions would be great.
Cheers

yes you can get different mods to reduce the draw length. my diamond marquis and general both say 29''dl on the limbs but are the correct draw length for me that being 30''. is there any chance you get someone to take a pic of you at full draw.
also what is the number on the mod. i think if it is a 2 then it is 29 and a 3 is 28 i think.

where did you buy it from?

On the module, I can't see the full details, but it ends with P2.

I purchased it through Zen Archery which is my local range as well. Easier for warranty, support and help when its local. They sourced it through Archery Supplies I think.
I'll have to take a look at the manu's site and see if I can find details on the modules.

it is dp2. that means it is on 29'' i believe. so a dp3 would be a 28'' draw length.

Did a bit of reading, I have lots of room left to change the length as its just an allen key stud which hits the limb which is my wall. As long as the letoff can be adjusted to suit, I reckon it will be ok.
At the moment, the draw stop stud is set on 7/10. 1 being shorter, so got plenty of room there, only letoff could be a problem.

i think you will find you can not move the draw stop very far as it will affect the bow to much. yes it will change your draw length but you wont be able to make up that 1'' difference. after 1 or 2 point moves down the let off will be very unpleasent and it will feel like it just wants to go.
Just got back from the range. I think its going to be ok. What seems to be a little long, is just me not being used to at full stretch.
The previous bow was rather short, and I got used to it.
Also, having to find a new anchor point is making it harder, I think I've got it down now though. Found a somewhat compfy spot.

I believe Friar Tuck shoots a black ice himself and I am sure he will be able to help you out. By the way, is the bow as sweet as the bow tests revealed?

What is on the limb sticker is not always what the draw length is.
Usually when they set the drawlength and weight at the factory they put on the sticker. Then if a shop changes the drawlength they dont change the sticker, some willl however write the drawlength change on the original sticker...

All the higher end Diamond and Bowtechs come from the factory set at 29" except for the Bowtech Equalizer (Short draw bow).

You want the DP3 mod and set the draw stop to the 6th mark for 80% let off

Jason will be shooting that one from next week ;);)

Being a beginner in archery, I can't really comment on it in depth.
All I can notice is that its very quite and light. I put it through a chronograph today. 222fps average at 57# 28" and 480gr arrow.
Put a 320gr through it, and went 272fps.
For me, the handshock is hardly noticable, if any at all. Though I am probably choking it a bit still. Trying to loosen fingers but forget. lol
Overall, I'm very happy with it. Daniel from the shop lent me a sight, even tho its mounted upside down (righty sight, lefty bow). It gave me the chance to actually sight it in a bit. Was grouping a little high, but about 7 arrows in a 3" spread. 4 of them touching.
Have some pics of me at full draw, trying to find compfy anchor and adjust forearm.. (little high in shoulder) Will post them up later.
Cheers

Thanks for posting the pics. It looks a sweet bow and in the bow test on archery talk it came overall second against all bow companies top picks. I have been considering getting one myself, hence the question. May have to get one in my hands and see what me thinks of it. I hope my switchback doesn't read this ;)

The way your upper bpdy is leaning back (away) from the bow makes me think the draw length is still a little to long for you.
You should be standing up straight...

You are right on the money. That's exactly the reason why we were taking pictures of me at full draw. I have tried hooking onto the string directly (not d-loop) and it's shortened it a bit, but I am still not 100% sure if I should get a different module.
Apparently I can go down to 27.5" draw length with another module, but I don't know if a 1/2" will be enough. Maybe a full inch is better. As I can always lengthen the release aid a little (maybe 1/2"). He also speaks of twisting the cables to shorten it a little bit, but I don't think I like the sound of that. Is it safe?, does it shorten the life of the string ?
Thanks
Wayne
:)
Edit: What Daniel from the shop is saying is that I'm not pushing my forearm out far enough. I am a bit paranoid about string slap as it hurts like crazy. As you can see in the pic, my anchor is pretty far back. My shoulder is also high. On my other bow, (bare bow/fingers) my anchor is at the corner of my mouth. I'm having trouble finding a new point that is consistant. Practice makes perfect of course.
Anyway, will get some more pic's with forearm extended fully.

In my opinion you are about 1" to an 1 1/2" long in the draw.
You can twist the cable(s) as long as axle to axle, cam lean and brace height are still in spec. Tell them to get you the proper module. If you ordered this bow brand new it should cost you nothing for the correct module. I always leave a bit of bend in my forearm as well. Im not saying it is proper form Im just saying I do it.
I also anchor on the corner of my mouth...
