gday gurus,
im looking at a set of vortex crossfire 8 x 42 $ 198 or spitfire 8.5 x 32 $236 or lightning 8 x 32 $161, ive always used acompact set of 8 x 21 tascos and never had any dramas, light compact etc.
however, im now starting to do more predawn glassing and moonlight glassing for hogs.
im not up for spending big bucks( ive used swarvskis before and love them, but cant justify the $ at present ,) nikon monarch's for ~ 350bux us$ are interesting but i see these vortex sets, fully multicoated N2 purged water proof etc all the big $ features for 200 bux ozi $ ??

technology has improved greatly over the last couple of years, waht do u think ? after all im not glassing tahr above the clouds at minus 30 deg in NZ!

i love compacts, so im tempted by 8 x 32, but i know 8 x 42 will be better for low light at a cost of weight/size....anyone used the budget range vortex ? ive read all the posts on the reviews section by watchmaker etc on the higher end optics, looking for some experiences on the lower end.

I got a set of vortex bino's from Gecko Archery and couldn't be happier with them. I treat them rough, and they have copped there share of dust, rain and there been smacked around with no issues at all.

I think you will find the lower end ones to be excellent also. I have looked through Adams, I am pretty sure they were the Diamondback, and they were excellent, especially for the dollars. We line up my old pair of binos and his in the early light and couldn't pick much of a difference despite mine costing a couple hundred more.

There is a new one coming here next week, called Fury, and two of my friends are buying them. They are about $150 more than the diamondback, but on spec you could easily expect to pay around 800 to a grand on them. Still the Diamondback represent excellent value.

I do have the high end vortex and have no complaints at all, they make a great package in terms of ergonomics and toughness. Through in the excellent optics and you can't go wrong.

Friar Tuck is the Australasian distributor for Vortex so I dare say that it would be well worth your while to talk to him on what you are after and how much you are willing to spend. If you do go with them, let us know your thoughts on them.

Yep I have the Diamondbacks and they are quality optics. Give Antony from Gecko a bell and I'm sure he'll look after you...:D:D

New shipment of Vortex arrived today, including the Furys, excellent binos for the $. Vortex will be in Sydney (Penrith) 16th and 17th February at the Gun show at Penrith Panthers if people in that area want a look.
