I don't really have pet names for my bows. To me they are simply the Kodiak Mag, the Red Wing or the Savannah, etc.
I have trouble remembering my kids names, never mind my bows.

For those that know me I've had a few bow from time to time and I've only named a few that "Felt" like they need one.
My first BlackWidow , SA11... "SilverFox"
2nd BlackWidow PSAX in Osage... "Discipline"
Glenn Newell longbow that my lucky mate Bill Baker now owns... "BoomSlang".
All the names ment a little something to me. I might add that I have now sold all these bows and am waiting on another BlackWidow.... :D
My wifes new Longbow from Glenn is called "My last breath' written in latin on the limb. I always promised it to her when away in the Army... long story.
Regards
Al.
Hey Al, so all went well with resting your arm up. Are you shooting again.

My new Widow ... "Joe Black" (Named after the Movie, get it) should be here soon enough. I'm kinda holding off with hunting and the likes untill the bad boy touches down. I've got a few Chital that have getten real cheeky of late! Time to make some introductions... Mr Chital meet Joe Black...lol!

my recurves been getting all sorts of abusive names recently cause my shooting just seems to be getting worse and worse
ive tried going back to barebutt shooting up close and just working on form, but it doesn't seem to help. i dont reckon ive shot a good group out of it at 18m in over a month.

Are you shooting instinctive or gap/point of aim shooting????
Sorry to up set you Humph, but in the last few weeks I have only got better with my shooting out to 30m and all instinctive to. At 20m I'm either hitting the spot I'm looking at or am within 5" of the mark (with the odd stray). :D
Oh yeah back on topic I dont have a name for any of my bows. But I may just give my next couple of bows (recurve and longbow) a name when I get them. 8)

hey hood, im just doing what ive always done and just tried to pick a spot, but i think my problem is im thinkin too much about the shot, and dont seem to just let it happen. i had a shoot tonight for the first time in a week and seemed to do pretty good. we had a paper deer target up and after a few ends i was putting almost all the arrows into what i would consider the vital area at 20m, so im pretty happpy. :D

I find that as well, that the more I think about the shot and shot placement the more likely I am of stuffing it up. When I'm truely relaxed and letting everything happen instictively it flows really well.

Yeah I like that one better :)
Tried to name mine after the Cherokee or Shawnee Indians, because they roamed the area where Widows are made, couldn't get words I liked, so I thought any Indian language will suffice :)

Got a link there Axe? I've read a few books on the American Indian. Some sad stories out there.
One book I read stated that the American government killed more Native Indians the Himmler/Hitler did the Jews.
All water under the bridge now.... :(

Have pm'd you some :)

Did you blokes know there is a precident for this bow naming thing?
The early twentieth century american makers/users had names for 'em.
Can't remember off the top of me 'ed but that bloke who studied Yishi? the last indian is some sothern region definitely had names for several of his bows.
Does anyone know if Howard Hill had names for his?
I haven't named a bow yet but you've got me thinking, I'll give my new Martin Mamba(only 100 sleeps to go!) a name after we get our first trad kill together.
I like the idea of using aboriginal words, sadly,I don't know anyone who speaks a language in my area. Looks like I have a research project to do and an excuse to meet some new people.
I have come from the sport of muzzle loader shooting/building and only named one rifle, it was a flintlock long rifle( a cheap mass produced gun) that I used as a test bed to improve my gunsmithing skills.
It has ended up with a hotch potch of different 'schools' of design and just doesn't look right. This proved to me the old adage that "you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear" so that's what it's called 'the sows ear'
