I went out to my recently aquired goat property again on saturday, I thought I would have a quick hunt before cricket (which got washed out anyway).
After parking the car and havin a chat to the owner I got out my gear and started to get ready for a very sweaty hunt as it was a very hot and humid morning. I only walked maybe 400m into the hills before coming upon my first mob. There were no big billies in the mob but I thought I will put in a bit of a stalk anyway, I stalked into about 40m when they decided to slowly move off. When following this mob i came across a nice billy with ok horns, so I left the mob and moved in on this new billy. But was unaware that this new billy had a secret weapon, as he fed, a nanny he was with was keeping watch hidden in the grass, so when I was crawling through the short grass I was soon spotted and then they took off.
I continued on another 100m to see this same billy and his nanny feeding on the slope of the hill. The nanny was bedded behind a log so she couldnt see me and the billy had his head down feeding, so the stalk was pretty easy and I was in at 15-20m in no time. I was just sitting on a log above the billy waiting for the right shot, a few quartering away shots were offered when he was moving around but I wanted a perfect still shot. When he finally stood quartering away at 16m I slowly drew with all the time in the world, settled the pin and released. The 4 blade muzzy entered about 20cm behind the front shoulder and exited just in front of the back shoulder. The billy ran straight down hill for 30m and rolled the rest of the way to the bottom of the gully. He had a nice set of curly horns and after taking some photos and removing the horns it was already time to finish my successful saturday morning hunt and return to the car that was less than 1km away.

It was my second hunt on this property and although I wanted to get deeper into the 3000 acres of hills it is hard cause I cant pass up the dozens of goats I come across in the first km.
