Hey knife lovers, I am currently looking at getting a hunting knife but don't want to spend too much as I will leave it in the bush at some point. I have tried other peoples knives and want one that has a 10-13cm blade with a drop point as I like this style. There are a few out there in my price range but I am unsure about the quality of the various brands, any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
Outdoor Edge make great knives for great prices. Have seen a couple in action de-boneing and skinning different types of game with great ease :)
Japanese steel blades, comfy handles/grips, many various shapes and sizes :)

You won't be disappointed if you get an Outdoor Edge knife, i have checked them out myself and they are great quality for a very reasonable price.
My favourite is the swingblade.

Hi mate
I use and can VERY highly recommend Fallkniven knives. The S1 is the single best knife I have ever owned. Its more than you want to spend but it will be in the family for generations.

Cheers guys. Are the common brands e.g Buck, Gerber any good?
buck is the better of the too, unless you can get hold of a older model gerber

Very true Forrie. I own an OLD Gerber 475 with the finger grip wood handle. I have retired this blade now as it has done its service way too well for me to loose it. If I could get my hands on another I would buy it in a heart beat!
try www.Esford.com They are a medievil reinactor supply mob but have a wide range of knives in there collection - look under Damascus . Picked up an excellant Damascus steel blade , bone handled knife from them for $55 .00 that sharpens as well as anything you will get for under $150.00 . Could not not believe the quality for the price when it arrived . There knives are made in India which explains why so cheap .

I've just ordered the Fallkniven F1. For the money I think it should be a good knife a bit too expensive to leave in the bush though, so I will have to look after it.
Thanks to all those who gave me advice on this issue.

The F1 is a top knife. I used it on my recent trip back to NZ its a good shape and size for skinning and feild dressing game. Its super sharp and keeps its edge even with a rough bugger cutting through joints. The only thing is the handle would be a bit short for somone with big hands.
I dont mind the Puma Hunters pal 2. Their not to bad, $, on Ebay
