After a quick phone call on thursday nite howie and myself had hatched a plan to get into some foxes on friday morning it was only going to be acouple of hours as i needed to be back so the missus could go to work(someones gotta ) at 11am. after meeting at 5.30 a short drive had us at howies secret fox spot #1, we waited for a little bit of light and as soon as we could we were off thru the paddock to a small stand of trees that opened up for a 100 yards or so.
Howie perched himself up on a large boulder and set up the camera while I stood below and waited for the whistle, a quick nod and it was on, howie was whistling like a champion and only a few minutes passed and I heard the quiet call of "left" ,slowly turning I saw a fox sitting on a rock about 40 yds away. He looked an older dog and was very wise to the whistle but he didnt come any closer and was soon gone to look for a real rabbit. The whistling continued and 5mins later here comes a 1/2 grown dog straight up the hill, round a rock and at 20yds I drew as he slowed down behind a small clump of grass, all I could see was the top of his head and ears and a tail at the other end so I dropped the 20yd pin on where i figured his chest to be and let fly. the fox jumped and turned in one motion and only covered about 15-20 yards before he piled up.we gave the whistle another 10 mins then recovered my fox, the arrow went in just left of center on his chest and came out his belly near his old fella.
We moved spots a couple of times and settled into a nice hill with plenty of blackberry ,i was on camera this time and howie was shooting,no sooner had the whistle gone and here comes a good dog up the hill, he got to 30yds and spotted me moving the camera ,howie took a shot but missed( bad angle ?)
and foxy didn't stay to long after that however and he ran off to some rocks and sat down watching us,howie continued to whistle and soon we had another 2 dogs close by ,one caught us by suprise and came from our right flank but he too escaped death and went and sat with the first fox.
We moved further down the hill and tried again this time things went right and soon howie had 1 as well we tried a few more spots but the wind beat us with 1 that was looking good and another was more interested in playing with the grasshoppers.all up we saw 8 and got 1 each pretty good for a couple of hours. so I say thanks again howie for helping me get my second ever fox and hopefully bowhunting4ever might be able to post some pics from the video we took. PLEASE JACK. hope u enjoy the read grimmo .
