Well simon and myself went up north an hour and a half to a place where we can chase a few billies. We diddn't do to bad. here are a few pics of game taken.

Taken on video from 4m and i was 1m behind him.

After simo shot the small bugger we looked down to our left and this guy jumped up. Another arrow later he had his personal best billy.

We did a bit of fox whistling after that and i missed a young fella from 15m for no other reason than just rushing the shot after watching him bound in over 200m.

I grabbed Some new heads from gecko Archery the other day and we were trying them out. Both billies simon shot with the slick Tricks only got about 7 inches of penetration but he did hit the shoulder both shots.

Not long after we foun a big mob and after 2 hours of cat and mouse i had myself 30m away from a really nice billy around 35+ inch. i took the shot at him quartering away ahd shot a little far forward hitting him flush side on into his shoulder blade. The arrow sounded like it had a judo point on the end and i watched this magnificent billy run off with my arrow flopping around just under the skin of his shoulder. So far were not very impressed with the slick tricks and later on i took this guy from 50m. i hit him sweet broadside and only got about 8 inches of penetration after it cut through a rib. I dont think i'm going to use them on anything bigger than foxes for now on.

Here is a sheep we found right out in the back country on a spring. Been a while since someone has seen him.

I also got a heap of G5 Montec's and right on evening shot a really chunky young billy with one of them and am really impressed. The arrow zipped through and left a nice hole. I'll be planning on trying to put a couple through a camel on the weekend if everything works out.

Sorry about the quick story might write up a good one for cashy about this hunt.

thanks for viewing

Thanks for the replies guys it wasn't a bad few hours spet out under the sun. Simon and myself are headding north 1300km on thursday to meet up with a bloke for a couple days chasing camels over the weekend. This year i'm trying as hard as possible to put as many different species down as possible. I have my pig and bull, hope to get a camel donkey or brumby over the weekend with a chance of a dingo at a spot on the way home. Oh and not to mention if i get lucky on a fox or hare soon.

I'll be using the G5 montecs on camels as the billy i shot on sunday right on dark with one hardly slowed the arrow down and it left a nice hole. You guys think this is a good choice or should i stick to the 2 blade outback supreme on the big beasts?

thanks

Dan, i was hunting on a sheep station so it wouldnt go down with the owner so well if i shot one of his sheep. Its probably been out there for a few years without being found but i guess next muster someone might find him if he survives but he wasn't moving so well.

Well done on the goats Macka

I`ve never really wanted to hunt camels before but there was a head mount at the hunting show on the weekend and it looked absolutely awesome. They are one big beast. They are definately on my wish list now. I`m an outback supreme fan myself, but on a camel I think the G5 may just open them up a bit more. Good luck on the camels

Nice goats, there, Macka!

Good luck with the camels! I think donkeys and camels are my favourite animals to hunt! For the camel, tight behind the shoulder and half-way up should do the job nicely.

The wool on those sheep helps insulate them from the heat. It doesn't seem to have much detrimental effect. My Dad was a shearer at Wiluna, and didn't like that kind much, as there were lots of sticks embedded in the wool which would damage the comb.

Cheers,

Ben

Oh, and my thoughts on broadheads for camels: the ribs are an inch-and-a-half thick; if you miss them, good and well, but if not, then you want your arrow to keep as much "oomph!" as possible - a two-blade has to make one split in the rib, whereas a three blade has to make three splits in the rib. When Matt Wright was putting his big beast down, already hard hit, his ~550 grain arrow from his 62lb Browning compound stopped dead on a rib, even though using a two-blader - so every advantage you can give yourself will help. This bull was walking slowly toward me (I had the camera bag) just ten metres away as I distracted it for Matt to get around the side and drop him (the third arrow zipped right through and put him down smartly).

Thanks for that Ben, it sure does make sense with such big ribs to use a 2 blade. I think i'll save the 3 bladers for the fallow in a month or so.
