Thought i would whip out for a shot nice and early this morning to see if the hares were still coming in. The hares had been pretty quiet so far this year, i thought i might not get many more chances to call one in until next spring.
On the drive out i saw 3 run across the road, i put that down as a good sign, hopefully i would have them running straight in to the call.
I set up for my first call only a short distance from the ute, got myself up on a good sized log and started calling. It wasn't long and i had one steeming in, but that was the problem, she ran straight past and stopped about 30 metres behind me, standing up on her back legs looking to see where the comotion had been comming from. I now had to try and turn around without causing any alarm to the hare. i managed to do this, then gave another short call, this bought the hare into about 8 metres where she sat almost broadside for me. My arrow slipped through her chest, she was dead on her feet, managing to only make another 15 metres.
The rest of the morning was spent whistling foxes, and missing a young one, but thats a different story.
