Gday guys,
Just thought i'd share a story of one of the best hunts i've had yet. My mate Nick "milky" met me at my house saturday arvo where we began packing our gear ofor the long awaited sunday goat hunt. Nick is a bowhunting virgin having never been on a hunting trip and only linning up in his sights his target and rabbits around his backyard. I was by this time looking forward to introducing Milky to the greatest past times ever. We arrived at the property at around five and hit the hills as the sun was rising. As we made the tip of the first hill we decided to glass surprisingly seeing nothing at all. SO we sat and waited a bit till it was light enough to see clearer. We later began to make out mobs of goats on an opposite hill and it wasn't long before we were on our first stalk. we made the 600m walk to the goats when i told nick to mind my bow while i krept over the ridge to locate where the goats had settled so as to plan our attack. As i walked towards the direction the goats were heading i had an awful wiff of billy confirming i was on the right track. I popped my head over to see a mob of twenty goats. Nick and i met up again and he kindly offered me the first stalked as he wanted to watch amnd learn any stalking techniques he could. I spotted a nice billy and made him my target. As he fed behind a large rock i stalked downhill towards him making it to 10 metres when i slowly rose and sent an arrow through him. Apon closer inspection he measured 30inches.
Nick getting the boost of adrenalin he needed, was more determined then ever to get his first goat so off we went over another hill where we spotted another mob slowly moving down some steep terrain. Without even hesitating Milky was on his way, however the goats outsmarted him as they kept moving across to another ridge. After a bit of questioning, we both put our foot down and decided we'll do watever it takes to get Milky's first goat so off we went following them climbing cliffs we originally thought were impossible to get up. We finally spotted the goats feeding again 100m along a ridge where Milky made his second stalk. Learnign from the mistakes of his first one, he comfortably stalked to within 45m where he lined up his first ever goat. Making no mistakes at all he released and pulled off a cracker of a shot, a 45m steep up hill shot killing the goat instantly. I do not know who was happier, me seeign one of my best mates take his first goat, (and a cracker of a first goat i must say) or Milky pulling of such an awesome shot at a terrific first billy. I later shot two young kids to fill the freezer and also a young billy, however, these were shot after Milky shot a second goat which fell of a cliff and was un reachable.
All in all we had an absolutely fantastic trip taking 6 goats in a one day sunday hunt.
Enjoy the pics lads.
