Well Daryl Barton is moving on from here and moving further west so we went for one last hunt together to catch up and have some fun. We took the trad gear. I was using my samick hunter 55# with POC shafts and ribteck broadies. Daryl was using a perfect line recurve and some carbons with supremes up the pointy end.

We camped up at the property the night before and were out early the next morning. After a long walk and a couple close stalks on some decent billies we were still empty handed. 2 missed shots from 20m on my behalf and Daryl skipped the shaft off a billies back from about 20.

We walked right out into some country i had never been before because with my new bino's i could see some black white and brown specks about 6km away. We got all the way out there and found out they were just over the boundry fence and a mob of cattle... woops. We did a big loop around a monster hill and swetted our way back allong a creek line and had a couple whistles along the way. Daryl got a running shot at a fox only just missing and the old blunts were gettig a hammering on the stumps and grass tussocks.

It wasn't long and we had found a mob of billies in the creek harassing a nannygoat. After daryl put in a stalk and got spotted i followed up the mob to find the nanny deep in a bush and about 6 billies jammed in there on top of her. I slipped a wood from out my quiver and put it on the string. I had a big gum tree between me and them which got me within 30m. I then stepped out and quietly snuck over while they were occupied. I surprised myself getting in to 3m from a big white billy with one horn. I sat there waiting for a clear shot and as if on cue he smashed into a smaller goat sending him flying and put himself way out i the clear. I let him have it. the arrow had hardly left the string and it was in the goat, thats just the way i like it with this traditional stuff! the goat took 5 steps and fell over not to move again. The arrow stopped hitting the oposite shoulder blade.

Here he is. Pitty about the broken horn otherwise he would have been around the 100 point mark.

The rest of the mob had no idea and Daryl snuck in to about 15m and made a good shot on a young billy. The goat walked up and sat down under a tree so he let rip again with another well placed shot exiting near his first shot. He was stoked and its his 5th trad goat.

This about summed up the hunt, we saw a few more but were nearly out of water so just headded for camp. Daryl is a great bloke and it will be sad to have him move on but we will deff hunt together again some time. We had a great day and i made the poor bugger walk all over the property. He needed it with all the piss he drinks i tell him ;).

I Had a chance to try out my new Vortex Fury's and they are awsome. By far the best set of bino's i have used. If anyone is interested in the Vortex range you wont be dissapointed. Friar Tuck on here is one of the forum sponsors and stocks the whole range at Gecko Archery. They were great to deal with!

thanks for viewing

Good to see those recurves getting out! Nothing like the smell of a busted cedar arrow, eh!
