rabbit skins

Me mate and me were skinning a rabbit and the skin full on tore in me hands!! there was basically no strain to get the skin off and i got sucpisious that something was wrong with the rabbit. i had checked it's eyes and its body for sists and discolouration but there was none. it seemed fairly healthy and i was wondering if anyone had come accross this before and knows anything about it. how long did you leave the rabbit before you skinned it? For me the skin only tears that easily when i leave it overnight and skin it the next day.

it was bout 10 mins after still nice n warm

also ive found that the young rabbits tear much more easier

age has a lot to do with it mate,the old bucks are pretty tough.

as mentioned before the younger bunnys tear easily and as they get older they get tougher i recon the bunny you shot might of had somthing wrong with it or like dan said somthing to do with the multing

Its like some of the sheep we skin at work, some are tougher the others, then you get others that just peel off like butter. I'd say there was nothing wrong with the rabbit you skun, just a nice tender bunny, that probably would have been just as tender in the pot.

Hey guys. i was with nasty nat and was skinnig it with him. it was actually a young hare, but still a decent size. it was about 17" long from nose to tail and was a chik. when we picked it up, it looked like a perfect hare, nothing seemed wrong at all. the skin tearing had nothing to do with the "Arrow wound" (nasty nat can explain if he wants).

yeah, well you neva skun a rabbit before, so i couldn't let the opportunity pass!!! besides, the dog was hungry.
