howdy
when i shot my billy from 30 meters i only got a few inches penetration out of my 60# vectrix, i hit him a bit far forward and am guessing i hit hard bone.
just wondering if there might be any other reason why i didnt get better penetration?
i was using Ribteks but have now changed to blackstump solids so we will see how they perform.
thanks dan.

Whoops!! might want to move this to general, Admin.
dan.
There are many factors to consider and some of them are,
Arrow flight - if the arrow is travelling and colliding at an angle, even a slight angle, it can impede penetration.
Can you dry shave hair off your arm/leg/thru paper with your broadheads, if not their not sharp enough.
Did you hear a big crack when the arrow hit, indicating you may have hit the scapula/bone?
If your gear is well tuned and heads sharp, you shouldn't have too much trouble punching an arrow thru a goat.
I wouldn't blame the heads you were using, they have taken thousands of animals.
Please supply more info and see if we can help you out......

cheers howie.
i cant remember hearing a crack, i dont have the best hearing and he was 34 meters away lol.
broadheads were taking hair off my arm but not a whole heap.
he was broadside but the arrow hit him angling forward on i think:confused:
any more info you might need?

in addition to the other good advice, didnt you say you had 25.5 inch arrows or something. I gather by that your draw length is quite short, that also takes a fair bit off the recommended speed for the bow. I know a couple of my mates that shoot shorter lengths, their arrows do the same as you say, they never get pass throughs. My draw on 30 inch goes straight through and usually so far i lose them. Thats what i put it down to??

not always mate with hoyts they measure the draw length weird for instance i have a 28inch draw length and can shoot 25 inch arrows with a one inch over hang from the arrow rest dont ask me how its works but its just measured differently

i dont really trust the ribbies, not to say there not a bad broadhead but i have heard from quite a few people that the little ribs on the side of the broadhead dosent give it as much penetration, but i dont know.
it killed it didn't it....
the next one you might shoot straight through and find the arrow a week later 150m past where ya hit it....

That would be from the positioning of the rest sitting 3 inches back from where your hand contacts the bow. Even though you may draw 28 inches the brace height of your bow will take 6-8inches off the actual powerstroke depending on the bow. Draw length makes a big difference. Both me and my mate shoot drenalins at around the 70lb mark, i draw 26.5 and he draw 29.5. The difference this makes in penetration on the target bag is definately noticable.
