What was one of the first things you confirm before taking a shot... Backdrop.

Sounds like gun-ho hunters to me.

I think he meant "at the close distances we hunt at with bows" ie, the range of the bow (or arrow as it were).

Accident? I would say negligently shot! This sort of thing should not happen. The man behind the bow must feel horrible (as he should). Let's all learn from this and not let it happen to us. Identify your target, pay attention to your backstop, and do not draw and shoot unless you a completely sure of "one shot, one kill".

I hope they both recover... prayers sent.
