Hi all

Came across a link today for a knife that i really liked the look of. The knife in question is the Blackfoot Elite Hunter. Not a huge fan of the steel being used but really like the design.

Heres a link:

Does anyone have any info on the brand or its use in the field?

well of the brand I am led to believe they have a solid rep, I'm not sure but I think it is made by Peter Jensen, and he is bad news. Not part of the company but made knives for them.

I would make sure the company has the knife in stock before you were to buy them.

Nothing wrong with that steel either, its just as good as all the other stainless out there, only difference is the heat treat, which will affect how easy the blade takes an edge, and how long that edge will last.

If you find that the knife is unavailable there are many custom makers out there that could make that design for you for a similar amount of dollars.

happy hunting

Thanks mate, appreciate you taking the time to post your thoughts.

Am actually thinking of approaching a custom maker to do that same design, minus the serrations for me. If you have 5, care to name a custom maker you would recommend?

not sure how much he would charge, but I have Stewart Townsend making me a couple. Paul Mayall makes some nice ones, and also John Foxwell, but I'm yet to get anything of theirs.

I'd ditch the "gut hook' as well

I agree. I will also remove the wire cutting gap on top and replace it with a thumb pad so I can move up the blade for small game.

Thanks, Waldganger you should get an email Wednesday or Thursday.

EsoMuse, as a part time maker I think ATS34 is a good stainless steel but different strokes for different strokes.

There are some makers out in the West who could make a knife for you - check out the Australian Knifemakers Guild ( you will have to work out the STD area codes). Obviously ;)I have seen my work, I have seen John Foxwell's work at shows and Paul Mayall's on the net.

IMO if you get it made by a custom maker all the little bits you don't like (which will annoy you) won't be there. You can change it and use a different steel and make the handle to fit your hand and therefore make a better knife. $450 or $270 is a lot of money for something that you don't like 100%.

Yep thats some good advice Stewart. I will do some research over here...failing that, is this the sort of job you would consider?

200Knives: Indeed I would and replace it with a convex edge.

I would certainly have a look at it.

I use leather for sheaths but I am dabbling with Kydex at this stage.
