I'd like to know more details: what bow? What draw weight? Weight of arrows? What string silencers? Where are the string silencers located? Cheers, Ben

1,dip the last 4" of each end of the string in turps and then wipe it with a rag to take the wax out.

this will make it fluff up a bit and make it softer so it does not slap against the limb

2, put string silencers on

3, if your bow is a take down make some gaskets out of a bike inner tube and put them between the riser and the limbs and make sure the bolts are tight but not too tight

4, if you have a bow quiver make sure none of the arrow points are touching aswell as none of the arrow in general cause they will vibrate together.

5, is the quiver attached to the bow in a way so as not to rattle.

6, incorrectly spined arrows can actually hit the shelf when you shoot causing you to think its a problem with the string

hope this helps

Very often string silencers are placed too far away from the start of the recurve, if they are too low they wont work. And if you have a take down wrap thread seal tape around the limb bolts to take up any play they may have in the thread. Check your brace height as well as a low brace height will make a recurve very noisy. Just take it up a couple of twist at a time and see how that goes...Glenn...

Check your brace height as well, too low a brace height will cause excessive noise and vibration. To eliminate string slap on the limbs, pad under the string grooves with soft moleskin and that will help. Good luck! Mark

Thanks to all, ya've given me plenty to go on with the first will be string silencers and brace height, i don't know what brace height it should be as its a home made bow not a brand name one. The arrows I was using are carbon that I use out of my 60# compound, the recurve is about the same draw weight, and it is the string as when I shoot if I put my arm against the string it stops vibrating.
Thanks agen.

A rough way to check brace height on a recurve is to check where the string lays on the curve.

It should be just lifting off the face of the bow at the end of the curve.

Some recurves have a groove in the curve, on these models the end of the groove should be showing under the string.

If the string follows around the curve your B/H is too short.

Another way is to shoot a brace of arrows at a horizontal line, shorten the string and shoot another brace.

The B/H where the brace of arrows hits the heighest point on the target is right for your bow.

The correct B/H will give the most efficient power stroke, so more force is transferred to the arrow.
