After backpacking into this spot over easter a saw a few stags but with the wether not the best i left after 3 days vowing to return 2 weeks later.

After arriving at the property after an 8hr drive i shouldered my pack for the walk into the night head lamp on of i set up the guly the plan was to walk until i herd a stag roaring them close in and set up camp which turned out to be about 1am.
camp

The stag kept me awake most of what was left of the night a stalk at first light put me close but some small stags put the big boy and his does up.

After a big hike it put me wright up high with a view to die for .
Im standing in an old goat bed i quite often ponder what must the goat think sitting hear looking out over gods country.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/ozzyshane/APAontherocks.jpg

Making my way around the valley i could hear a faint roar from where the big boy from easter was hanging slowly moveing in on the roars now he had a friend making some noise as well .

Coming over a small rise a stag bolted from about 80m luckerly it was the small stag looking around with the binos i could make out a doe down hill about 65m when all of a sudden the master let out a roar that shoock the leaves of the trees 2 more does walked over to the first then the stag came out hot on there heals one look was all it took to know he was a shooter the does where mving to my right with the stag in tow i had to drop down about 20m to get into a shooting lane the rangefinder read 44m the APA black mamba came to full draw with steady pressure aplyed to the Carter Evo it was only a mater of time before the 2219 found its mark a little fare back

The stag ran about 60m and pulled up for a look the got the wobbly boot and crashed to the ground to say i where one happy bowhunter was a big under statement.

As i made my way over to the downed stag he was life less until i got to about 20m i couldnt believe it he tryed to lift up his head a 2nd arrow was on its way after the impact the stag bolted only to bed down about 50m away a 3rd arrow just to make shaw hewasnt going to get up again and it was all over.
On the blood after the 2nd arrow

Top-shelf stag Shane!

A display of true dedication, many of us can learn a lot from your efforts.

Did you see many reds this year? I had heard that the choppers 'supposedly' shot over a hundred in that area late last year. Hopefully there are still good numbers getting about?

Tim

ozzyshane
14-04-08, 09:11 PM
Tim the no. where down a mate was at another spot that had heaps last year and very few this year.

Its lucky we have the game council looking after our deer heards for us NOT

Our money well spent on culls because that is where your money goes.
Thanks Shane
