I have submitted an annual leave form for the first week of may, and am thinking of heading up into NSW for a drive to do some fishing, bowhunting and photography.
I have friends in Cobar, so may head up that way, but could go anywhere else.
Without giving away any secret locations, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where i can go to hunt goats. I really only want to shoot a big billy, or a nice meat goat. Im not going to kill everything i can, and truth be known, i probably wont hit anything anyway, but i want to try.
I know there is a bit of crown land to the east of cobar, heading towards nyngan, but have never headed west toward wilcania, or north towards bourke.
If everything goes to plan, we will most likely drive over to orange, then head south ffrom there to head home.
So if someone could steer me in the right direction of some crown land to hunt i would really appreciate it.
Otherwise, i will ask my friends from cobar if they can help put me onto a property. They live in town now, but come from the land. (135,000 acres)

Also, is there any goats in Victoria anywhere?

There is your answer, ask your friends to help out, they should have some contacts around Cobar

This might be a stupid question, but whats an R license? The only thing i have ever hunted in NSW was ducks at lake urana, and that was 20 years ago!!!

Best thing to do is get an R-lic and hunt some declared sf, many have goats in them you just need to look at the site to find out which ones. You can't legally hunt crown land in Nsw as far as I know and have look into. Other then that your mate should be able to put you onto some numbers of property owners

Thanks for the help fellas. I just googled R-Licence. After what i read, it looks like i will be restricted to private property. You need to be a member of an accredited bowhunting organisation in order to get an R license.
Thats OK, i will call my firends over the next few days.
Thanks for all your help.

You can get away with a g license if you just hunt private land. I dare say if you have a connection in Cobar then you should be fine around there. You can get the G license over the net on the game council website. The R license you need to sit a test for and be part of a hunting organisation like Trophy Takers or the ABA.

If this is just a one off trip to NSW then i wouldnt get an R-Licence... To much stuffing around with the paperwork and i think you have to pay something around $60.
I would just stick with those mate's of yours and let them put you onto some farmland.

I dare say Rossy's offer is an excellent option and you can come across the border any time and hunt the southern state forests which are pretty good. Either way you will need a license to hunt in NSW.
