Hi all,
Just brought some tusker Spirits. Lets say i'm not impressed by them. So blunt and chipped like a serated butter knife. I have been trying to sharpen 1 head for the last 2 hours got it sort of sharp but cant shave with it yet. How do you guys sharpen them? I've got a good oil stone and diamond steel as being a Chef and sharpen all my knives like razors. Just can't work it out. Statrting to p*** me off and mostly go back to buying G5 broadheads pay more for them but sharp out of box and easy to sharpen.

I use a panel beaters rasp that I picked up at an auto paint supplier and fitted it to a block of wood. Costs around $30.
It knocks of those rough edges really quickly.
Alternatively Dave Pender makes a similar product called Razors Edge.
Can't go wrong with either.
macca.you would be the first person i have heard , bag Tusker b/heads.
i sharpen my my broadhead with a flat bastard file, then finish with a hit on the steel they come out shaving sharp ready to stick a critter.
when you say"blunt and chipped like a serated butter knife". were they new or 2nd hand, as i don't think john would pack and sell such a product.
P.S. the maker of those broadheads has a video on how to sharpen them

Hey,
Yeah they came like that. I rang the shop I brought them from and they said thats how they came from the factory.
I'm not trying to bag Tuskers out as from what I heard they are great and everyone loves them. I suppose reading what I put sounds like it. I was just pissed at thats how I received them from the shop and when you buy something you expect it to be how it is advertised. I will just keep working on them I suppose to get them razorsharp. I only have a stone and steel.

best of luck with them mate.i also saw a post that you payed $150 for a NAP 2000,this is just my advise, shop around.

Have to agree with the other guys Macca. Get yourself a razors edge or a panel file and you will not look back with any broadhead. I have used a panel file for Tuskers, Outbacks, Magnus, Montecs and Zwickeys and it puts an edge on them real quick. Once done then you get them razor sharp very easily with steel and a strop. Best of luck.

Thanks guys.
I'm slowly getting there with them I got them very sharp but still wont shave. Still cant figure though you buy a broadhead and you have to sharpen it so much. I just thought they should be sharp to start with and just need a touch up or am I just to fussy?
I have learnt to shop around now too. Found there is a lot of difference in prices between archery shops here in OZ. Also found some stuff cheaper to buy from the states with postage included but I like to support local and aussie made.

37macca the Tuskers are sold without an edge on them and only slightly bevelled on both sides. You have to put more work into getting them ready to use but that's one of the reasons why they are a lot cheaper than other broadheads. It's taking you a long time to put an edge on them mate because you need to remove a lot of steel and using a stone or diamond steel to do that will take for ever. As the other members have already suggested, use a coarse file, panel file or razors edge. You can then use your stone or diamond steel to finish the edge if you want to.
I love the Tusker Spirits, they're extremely easy to get a razor sharp edge with a bastard file or panel file and they're great value for your money.

You can get Tuskers sharp from the shop, they have that glue strip protecting the honed blade. They cost about a dollar extra per head but they save the tedium of hand filling.

With the exception of Mr Davies perhaps :D :D
;)
Jesus mate, you'd be there for weeks trying to sharpen a Broadhead with a stone a steel (I doubt you'd get anywhere with the harder Blackstumps). Get a file asap. Body files strip them down the quickest but need to be mounted on a timber block. Alternatively a good bastard file or 2nd cut file will get the job done fairly quickly even when hand held. A bench grinder also gets the job done but can be a bit tricky. Just make sure you keep cooling the edge and don't let it go blue or you may as well chuck the heads out. You need to keep the digits well clear too a broken shaft can be helpful to keep hands well clear.
hi mate i just sharpened about 10 of them today by using a bench grinder and then a stone and it is alot quicker than a file but it is also easier to stuff up

What shop would that be because we sell them and I have never had them arrive sharp. Many of my customers would buy them if they were pre sharpened...

Thanks guys,
I went and brought a file today. Got my first 1 sharp shaving some hair but needs bit more work. Didn't realize that they came blunt suppose my bad. Maybe archery shop website should have a note that they are not sharp and need tools to sharpen.
