View Full Version : TUSKER BROAD HEADS
Has anyone else had a problem with the screw in adaptors of the tusker javelins? All but two ive mine have so far jamed themselves in to the inserts, you can screw them in and out fine for a few shots then they seem to cross thread themselves when you try to unscrew them and you can unscrew them 5 mm or so then you cant screw them back in or out.
May be the inserts. I have found they sometimes start to corrode and 'swell' this then causes the adaptor to cut its own thread, especially when you use alloy inserts which are softer to begin with. Another issue is that the different metals will react with one another causing them to corrode faster than normal. For example stainless will even corrode if attached to mild steel. Try getting some pliers and removing one and check which thread is deformed or stripped that will give you a better idea of what is causing the failure. And always put some lube on your adaptors before screwing them in. Not only will it help to get them in and out but stop any corrosion causing you dramas. CRC or Vaseline work well.

Then run a tap and die through it i got that with a few of mine and i just slowly ran a tap and die through it a few times and they are fine now.
Theres something definately wrong with the set up. somethings happening when they hit the target, i just shot one that was screwing in and out fine and now its jammed cant unscrew it. whats happening there?

I always smear the thread with bow string wax...stops them working loose while making removal easy...and is great for target tips also.
Are you screwing them all the way home? Also unsure what style HIT inserts are but do they have a shoulder that stops them driving into the shaft?

HIT inserts (hidden insert technology)they have no shoulder on them,sit inside the carbon shaft 10 mm...Rob;)
Haven't had that trouble Chad, the only drama i have have is getting the adapter into the tusker javelin sometimes they don't go all the way home,any thoughts on the best glue for these,i have been using araildite

You would probably be better giving John Teitzel ( tusker broadheads)an email. Its always better to go to the source for the best answers.

. I would be surprised if you didnt find him helpful, as its in his own interest to have a good reputation.
It may be that the problem is not with the broadheads at all, and a public debate doesnt help you very much, but may be harming Johns lively hood.
been shooting them for years and have had some get stuck in the shaft but that was a corosion problem with the adaptors and they were just left as dedicated hunting arrows.
Can't see how this is going to effect johns lively hood, im not saying there is a problem with his broadheads, im asking if anyone is having the same problem i am with a similar set up? It could be the HIT inserts or any number of things. I ask the question because i want to use the broadheads and sure i will e mail john but isnt this forum used for this purpose learning and finding answers.

I suppose I am thinking from my own point of view, and shouldnt try and second guess what Johns views are, but personally I always appreciate customer feedback direct to me first.
For example, If a customer says on this forum that he cant get Outback Supreme broadheads to fly as with accuracy, that might put 20 people who were considering trying Outbacks off.
If each prospective customer was thinking of trying 10 broadheads, that would work out to $700 loss of possible sales that year.
It doesnt matter that the original customer who lodged a negative post is a newcomer and needs advice on bow tuning or his arrow spine was up the creek, the damage is done.
Now I am not saying you dont have a valid question, or am I having a shot at you in any way, I mean no disrespect, just pointing out that it may be appreciated if you were to go straight to the source for answers first.
I will stand behind my products and am very happy to work with anyone to achieve a good result with their archery gear.
I have a strong suspicion, customer satisfaction is very important to John too. Happy customers will come back again.
I am just saying that I appreciate people asking me first, about any problem before posting negative reviews on the forum.
I am not against people pointing out a problem, to me, that is good, because feedback is how we learn what needs to happen to improve things.
But it is better from my point of view if people would talk directly to the supplier/manufacturer first.
I can fully understand where you're coming from Woody but I don't believe Chad was posting negative feedback.
From what I see he was/is seeking help and possible answers to his problems. I don't think he said anything negative but just facts on his issue in an attempt to advise others who may be able to help.
On the flip side mate, imagine if everyone who had small issues with your heads came to you, you'd lose a fortune in production time helping everyone out. ;)
