View Full Version : WARNING: Martin Tru Arc Cam - Production Fault
G'day everyone, I currently shoot a Martin Razor X compound bopw with the Tru Arc Cam system (NOT the Tru Arc +)
My cam system exploded when I stored my bow away over night in its bow case. I woke up to a loud crack and bang! Basically, the cam systems have a fault where too much stress is placed on a small ferrule that is supposed to hold the cam together. If I had have been at full draw when the cam gave way, the cam would have been whipping around on the end opf the cables with about 300 pound per square inch of pressure on the cam itself (enough to kill you if it hit you in the head, neck or chest)
I thought I would warn everyone that this model of cam is faulty and if you are considering buying a Martin bow, please ensure that it does NOT feature the Tru Arc cam system as they are very dangerous.
Furthermore, after 4 weeks of the bow shop trying to fix it (bless their hearts, they have tried everything to get it back to me quickly), it has had to be sent back to the manufacturer because other cam systems do not create 70 pounds of draw like the Tru Arc system did. If Martin cannot fix it, it looks like they may have to supply me with another bow! But I love my bow... :(
In the meantime, I have been hunting and succeeding with a 1990 model Proline compound bow. It's like hunting trad! Basically it's 58 pound and onle 5 percent letoff! It has no sights and has a little rubber prong that the arrow sits on. Very primitive indeed, but it shoots smoothly and is pretty cool I reckon. I'm going to post up lotsa pictures soon of the goats and skins and other bits and peices. Look out for them.
G'day Coach, yup the cams are just dying. Not good at all...
Apparently the razor x isn't all that popular in AUS but it has had problems with the cams in the US and UK too. I just want my bow

Gee, cant Say I ve seen any Tru Arc Cams Gone woof as yet !
Mind you we have only sold 2 RazorX .
But Sold a Swag of Sabers with Tru Arc's and No problems !
A few Bent Risers on the Sabers Maybe  but no blown Cams !!
Can't Say as I understand the bow not making 70# problem except we did get a few Jags with the Wrong Limbs, right stickers wrong limbs.
Hope it all works out, If not ask for a new RazorX that Makes 70#
All in all Value for Money the Martins are top notch and apart from the odd misfit very reliable bows....Just my 2 bobs worth !

G'day Coach.
Myself and Illusion_05 are from Cairns's only and rapidly growing Archery Store.
A once hardcore Firearm shop, Archery has taken a huge bite of the Bussiness.
We have a 10mtr (3 butts) indoor setup range ( Soon to be 20Mtr 8 butt )
Infact we are having trouble keeping up with demands for stock at present like allot of other retailers I believe.
Cheers
Willy
PS we have only been here 26 years !

I reckon the family and I are about the best customers they have as well.
And the shop has come a very very long way from when I walked into it 4 years ago. And all for the good in my opinion.

Gday fellas,
The local archery shop here in darwin sells the martin bows while I was in there he showed me 1/2 dozen tru arc cams that have blown up, from what i saw they seem to be breaking around the bushings insert.

No where on the Moduals does it say idots please don't touch !
Cos I did and spent a good 45 min going down in draw instead of up , picked the right Mod off the top my head then had a major brain fart, and started to put in smaller mod instead of larger
Tip of the day move your Press away from the customer service area !! talking strings and wheels things dont work out so good sometimes !! while working on a bow not a real good move !

Well at least the customer sitting in the service area was more than happy to point out your mistake my friend. :D Though he didnt have to do it while all the other customers were standing around I guess. Bigger number longer draw length.

Howdy all, back from the land of the rice ball yesterday (japan) had the best time that money couldnt buy and memories that would remain for a life time. Not going to settenlmental........ came acoss a place in Japan called Dear Park (name says it all) dears running around everywhere, eveyone was feeding em bread but all i could think about was carbon, even a hack like me could have hit something.
as for bow collections css we look forward to what the future holds and have to do some restructing to keep up with demand.
cheers all
Just back to the martin bows, i had a big FUBAR ricently when my martin saber snap throught the riser. bloody hurt. willy you mentioned you have had sabers bend, have you had any break?
Willy_R

esrom,
They didn't bend as Such it was a Manufacturing fault with a few very early Sabers !
But there has been allot of wrong limb / cam combinations getting around.
So check and see that the Limbs and Cam are right.
I still have not had the Problem with the modules which started this tread though...?
But to snap through the Riser now that would be a biggie And dang glad I was not swinging of the flamin thing when it went !!
But you would be getting warranty would you not ??
Personaly I really like the Phantom II and the new P3 ............
Cheers

I had a Phantom II earlier in the year, was a beautiful bow to shoot but I did a string before 200 shots, fitted an aftermarket string and it hasn't had a problem since. The chap that bought it off me has been shooting targets with it and has shot a lot of arrows through it and is very happy.
The only reason I parted with it is I don't like lumpy cams, that is why I shoot Oneida's......smoothest bow I have ever drawn back.
Yeah they sent me out a new bow ASAP. they also sent me out a new stabiliser as the force sheared off the bolt on mine. they were really good about it. geting a new bow was not a issue for everyone involved, ran like clock work :D . i was really happy with the bow til this happened. trust me it hurt.
