hi guys ,
i know its a bow hunting site but i was a bit excited to have fire arms removed from a chap we run in to while hunting last january .

i was hunting with my bow at the time so i guess this qualifys this post to be bow hunting related;)

i copyed and pasted from our site so hope you find it interesting reading :D

.................................................. .................................................. ...

on Friday the 11 th of January 2008 Deanno and i went hunting in the Tatong /Tolmie area of north east Victoria
for sambar deer.
we were hunting STATE forest ,Max Reese was also hunting the same area ,
to cut a long story short we were assaulted by Darren Sheppard of Tolmie - Tatong road, Tatong,

Darren apparently believed that we were hunting in 'HIS SPOT' and hunting his 'DEER' and he and tried to use violence to suggest that we hunt in another location .

statements were given to police and Darren went to face the Benalla Magistrate's court on Tuesday the 22 of April 2008
he pleaded guilty to assault ,recklessly causing injury, criminal damage, and several firearms offenses.

Darren has had his fire arms license revoked and now much to every one involved's delight become a prohibited person, never to be allowed to carry or posses a fire arm again (with out a lot of trouble on his behalf)
Darren lost a total of 9 firearms ,being a mixture of 4 deer rifles, shot guns and .22 long rifles.

These were forfeited to the crown and will be sold to recoup court costs.
Along with loosing his firearms Darren was fined a total of $1000 to be paid to the RSPCA, must pay restitution to fix a damaged car of a little over $400,write 3 letters of apology to the 3 person's targeted in the two attacks
and has been placed on a twelve month bond for good behavior .

I guess he thought he would frighten off people from his "SPOT' but he picked on the wrong people, to attempt to intimidate remember if you are hunting in the Tatong-Tolmie area never be intimidated by this chap ,

DARREN SHEPPARD

.................................................. ..............................................

in short he didnt have a good day in court ,we esstimate for his attempted intimidation and vilolence against us he is out of pocket about 12-15 thousand dollars

he was aparently crying in the dock when the magistrate was givving him a dressing down :D,even more so when he took his guns away and cancelled his fire arms licence

thanks for reading

Sad to hear that a fellow hunter has an attitude like that. After all,you were hunting a state forest not on private land he owned. What is a bit of a worry now is he is off the radar so to speak.Whos to say he wont arm himself with off ticket gear and continue hunting and intimidating other hunters in the area?Sounds like you lot were lucky he didnt get really violent. Thanks for bringing it up.

There is a fella up near eucumbene that has had some run ins with the law.I know his name and a few people i know have had run ins with him.He has fired shots over peoples heads a few times. One bloke i know took him to court over it and the fella lost all his legal firearms. But sadly the behaviour continued a few years after with another lot i know having a lot of problems with the same bloke. Some people just dont listen or learn.

Good to see tools being dealt with....All we need now is some better laws to protect Graziers rights to their own land against trespassers.

should made him do community service something along the lines of identifying ever animal on the state forest for record keeping of their weight and what not lol but not be able to shoot or hunt in any way, something that puts them in a position of being able to hunt something awsome but not be able to.

That is ontop of everything else.

Its good news snowy. If anyone is going to act in this manner they should never be allowed to possess or use a firearm again. period. Good on you for handling the situation in the way you did.

On another note, I will be down from the 3rd until the 18th of next month with a new bow and rifle. Ill have to swing by the club.

Mate, thats excellent news. Its these kinds of people that give hunters in general a bad reputation. Thankfully now he will have to take up golf.
Well done snowy and friends on removing this tool.
