ive been getting into this sittuation of late, taking this arvo's hunt as an example,
i was out looking for the odd fallow deer around my place today when i came across a large doe and a youngen-(a bit smaller than the one puk got) i got in nice and close to about 20m after an hour stalk, the mother doe was feeding behind some trees where a shot wouldnt be on untill she moved right out in to the open (really thick scrub), but the youngen was only at about 15m and in peferct position for a shot to be taken, i stood still watching it do what young deer do, thinking about whether this deer could grow into a potential buck or a nice size doe that would offer more meat in the next months or year to come, but then i also thaught if i was to shoot the mother doe would the young one be able to survive?? i didnt want to shoot a mother and have its young die suffering and shoot a deer in sacrafice of another one, i also found/thaught it was strange why there was only the two of them?? i would have thuaght they would have been in small groups of 5-10 with a buck hasleling due to the rut?? in the end i just watched them feed until the wind swirled around and gave me away,
i guess im asking would you shoot the youngen, M-doe, or keep moving on??
regards jono
