THE SPOILED

UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

If you

are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I

was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears

with their tedious diatribes

about how hard things were

when they

were growing up; what with walking

twenty-five miles to school every

morning, through the snow ... Uphill BOTH ways --

Yadda, yadda,

yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,

there

was no way I was going to lay

A bunch of

crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy
they've got it!

But now

that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty,

(way

over)

I can't

help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it

so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn

Utopia!

And I

hate to say it, but you kids today don't know how good you've got

it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If

we wanted to know

something,

We had to

go to the

damn library and

Look it up ourselves, in the card

catalog!!

There

was no email!! We had to actually write

somebody a letter with a pen

Then

you had to walk all the way across the street and

put it in

the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were

no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to

the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or, you

had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually

talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have

fancy
crap like Call Waiting! If you
Were on the phone and somebody
else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have

fancy Caller ID boxes either! When the phone rang, you

had no

idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss,
your
bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't
know!!! You had
to pick it up and take your chances,
mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games

with high-resolution 3-D graphics!

We had the

Atari 2600! With games

like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy

was a little square!

You actually had to use

your

imagination!! And there were no multiple levels

or

screens, it was just one screen
Forever!

And you could

never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and

faster and

faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the

movie theater there no such

thing as stadium seating!

All the
seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a
hat
sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were
just
screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only

like 15 channels.

And there was no on-screen menu and no remote

control!

You had to

use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was

on! You

were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off

your
butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was
no
Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday
morning.

Do you hear

what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK

for cartoons, you

spoiled

little rats!

And we didn't have microwaves. If we

wanted to heat something up we had to

use the stove or go build a

frigging fire...
Imagine that! If we wanted
popcorn, we
had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the
stove
forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking

about! You kids

today have got it too easy.

You're
spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in
1980!

Regards,

The over 30 Crowd

Oh yeah brother I'm hearing ya.:P:P:P

Oh so true.:P

And not to forget the brick sized walkmans.

But on a better note.

We could get $3.00 hot chips and feed an entire family and still have some left, unlike the handful of chips you get today. Oh yeah and they actualy recycled news paper to wrap them in.:D

And not to forget a litre of petrol was less then a quater of what we pay today.

And what about being able to put something down for two seconds in a public place with out worrying if it would be there or not when you turned around. :o

Road rage never heard of back then.

I also remember at age 9 going and buying my old man his smokes and never got asked for ID. I first got asked for idea to buy grog the day I turned 18 (even though I'd been buying fromt he same place for the previouse 2 years) and then the next time was the day I turned 21

Oh how times have changed.:(

We even had to play on full size football and soccer fields from the under 7's all the way through and the goal posts were full size and you had to kick it from where it was scored. Too far out wide then forget the conversion.

And we could go shooting things with air rifles, without a licence!
And we could go trailbike riding with our old man on a mini bike in a state forest and the constable looked the other way!
Kids had things like pocket knives for things other than stabbing each other!
And the term "Sue" was the name of the tuck shop lady, not a excuse to try and get something for nothing.

Times have changed.
You young bucks, join a pro hunting organisation and let your voice be heard before all the things us over 30's took for granted are gone forever.

A good kick in the butt from the local Sgt of Police was nothing compared to the trouble you would get when you got home and told the old man what you had done. Good clean discipline.
You respected teachers, Doctors, parents and the like.
You could go up the park without worrying about some sicko offering you boiled lollies.

You still getting hassled in the park mate! :P

I remember my driving test! It was once round the block, one hill start and a reverse park. There were no traffic lights no roundabouts and the police officer that did the test talked constantly about how good my mums VL turbo commodore was, the same officer would sometimes catch me walking up the road from my mates place with my .22 rifle on my shoulder. All he would ever say was "how you going Dave, get any Bunnies" and drive on. Can you imagine what would happen these days?

Ahhh, the good old days.:D

The milko would deliver the milk to your door in glass bottles, with little lids that you could lick the cream off. You would leave the money out for him.
Tuesday night was burning night, everyone had little incinerators in the backyard to burn their rubbish.
Firecracker night was great too. (Queen's birthday now)
All old memories now, buried under mountains of red tape and political correctness.

Classic guys, bringing back some memories there. How things have changed. You could smoke anywhere you wanted to even in Maccas they supplied ashtrays, and the only people that didn't smoke genuinely never did, not the reformed tossers getting around nowdays going on about passive smoking while more cars than ever pump out pollution right next to the footpaths we walk on.
Remember when kids actually played outdoors?!?! Right up untill the street lights came on. And Christmas day there where more kids in the street riding new bikes and skateboards than cars.
Most families only had one TV and if Dad was watching the news you had to shut-up or go outside.
Joggers were normally only worn for playing sport, not an expensive fashion accessory. And shorts always finished above the knee. Stack hats where not only rarely seen but basically forbidden anyway.
How about drinking water out the tap...yeah I'm for real you young-uns. If we were playing outside we would even drink out the garden hose! Most kids think drinking water is a form of punishment nowdays. And get this 'Please ' and 'Thankyou' where not optional words for your vocabulary. If you didn't use manners you didn't even get heard. Plus you were considered very brave if not boarderline retarded if you got the guts up enough to swear in front of an adult even if it was only to say Sh@t if you spilt something or hurt yourself.
School work was hand written or done on a type writer and if you made a mistake you had to start all over again. Correct spelling was also not optional, unlike some gibberish you try and decipher in threads sometimes.
As someone already said $3 worth of chips was a lot, but 50C worth of lollies was enough to make you sick.

I love the atari reference
"Getting faster and faster and harder until you die, just like life" Ah so true.

$2.00 was a kings ransom and enough to let me travel on the bus to the beach or into the hills or into town to catch a movie. A rare treat usually brought on by scoring enough cool drink bottles and saving up. I could buy a feed and still have 15c left over for emergency busfare or a phone call haha.

Allowance? Pocket money was something your pop gave you when he visited. Chores and jobs around the house went unpaid but stood you in good standing should you need a new pair of footy boots or something like that. If you wanted money you could get a job that paid stuff all and made you work like a bugger, usually something to do with running around a lot or manual labour. If you were able to you could trap rabbits and sell them to the butchers.... Blah blah, "Yes, Luke, I am my father" (shameless Star Wars rip) Oh yeah, star wars was it and LOTR was still a really thick book written by some old bloke in england.

While I don't mean to get too serious here... and I do agree (as a 30+ veteran) with almost all of the comments so far, I reckon that each 30+ generation, for all of history, has said very similar things about the people younger than them. Attitudes change as the world changes; for example, diseases, wars, The Great Depression, religious and political changes, technological advancements and the introduction of Kellogg's Frosties have all influenced society and personal and social mores. And don't we have some responsibility for how the current generation thinks and behaves? I don't think they were raised in a vacum. I'm off to ride my dragster now.

Not to mention archery gear. The introduction of those new contraptions with cables they called compounds, 23/64 POC woods- no alloys or carbons. NO SIGHTS, RELEASE AIDS OR BOW QUIVERS. Instinctive shooting was the norm.
No worries shooting the air gun and slingshot in the back yard, climbing trees catching Black princes or Yellow mundays (?).

yes isnt it great the world us kids live in, drop out of school at yr 10, and can make enough money to NOT rent an apartment, finish year 12 plus a few years uni might be able to pay off that 1 person house... on second thought rates going up maybe not, you only leave the house at night if your planning on getting mugged of if ur lucky to go mugging someone else, druggos down at the skate park, pedofiles down by the local swimming pool, some wierd emo cult in your neigbours backyard... TV has got nothing but news on how the world is up the $h!t and "buy this t-shirt for $89.00 and u will b cool" not to mention your counsellor is telling u to give up because you didnt get an A on that history exam, geez ur worthless...

if your lucky enough to acquire a .22 or sluggy, walking down the street with one is NOT a good idea, and wont end well... if you can't find one, no worries just jump on the PC for a few hours, no one at all will call u a nerd and bash u up...try and reteleate and thats another trip to the guidance councellor, if ur panz enof to tell a teacher what the hell will they do?... also further bashings...
water's good.. if it hasnt been spiked by that pedo at the pool again... or maybe it was the local stalker looking for a "quick hit" everyone's a serial killer in this modern world... the TV and newspaper told me, and they never lie

yep, its a nice terryfieing, wacked up world we live in...can ya smell the fear?

Funny you mention those 'contraptions with cables' howie. The father in law told of an American mate of his Bob Markworth who was asked by Jennings from memeory to trial a new bow they had made. At the time recurves were as good as it got. Anyways he informed them after several shots that 'those things will never do any good and won't be very popular' (or something to that effect). Now look at compound bows. :P
Most kids these days wouldn't know what the hell youre on about 'Black Princes and Yellow Mundays'. My kids freak and run away when I catch them to show em.;)

Petrol - 40-50 centres a litre,
Food & Drink - Could get a whole lot with 5$.

Gang Violence - Wasn't as bad as it is these days, Where im from i can't even walk down the street at night to the local shop to get a coke or fanta without worrying about getting jacked up.

Police - They are alot more aggresive now that younger people are in the force, And we are often manipulated in situations.
And always labled as bad,
Eg:If we drive V8's on P Plates, We're going to die.
How can they compare that we are the ones doing the killing when its the other people doing the stupid ****,
They punish us all by repossesing cars etc.

Drugs, Sure you's had weed////pot etc.
Now our streets are flooded with Liquid G, Heroin, Speed, Ecstacy, Ice, Cheese (Scraps of heroin even more dangerous than heroin its self)

Rapes - Females getting raped on a daily bases, or Sexually assaulted, and mostly from repeated offenders.

Streets/Beachs Dirty - Back in the day you's probobly could go swimming and not have to worry about stepping on a syringe etc, These days its always in the back of my head. Our local council in victoria this summer picked up on average 90 syrigines per beach in Melbourne Vicinity,

Global Warming: We're hotter than what we were 20 years ago, Which affects me and other tradies, As im a bricklayer etc, Heat is a constant enemy.

I didn't state these to start an argument just to raise awareness on other Aspects that weren't raised

Maybe some from the "good old days" that you young fellas may over look (not that I'm that old ;))

How bout, you didn't use your manners at school so your teacher cracked you one with the ruler or threw a b'board duster at your head. There was nothing you could do about it because your old man would cop it to you if he found out you were a cheeky bugger to your teacher :o

Petrol may have been cheaper, and $5 may have gone a long way but you only got $.50 a week pocket money as a kid and maybe earned $100 a week as an adult.

Luke, either your older than me or your mum was a scrooge!!!...i got $1.00 and and and.....it was the old fashioned dollar not. Me and my brother would get one each, and have a kangaroo race. Remember the kangaroos on the dollar note, we use to hold them up into the light, and see whos kangaroo was closest to the line(remember the security lines in paper notes) and whoevers kangaroo was furthest back lost and had to do the dishes that night!!!

As a kid, we had a gunrack on the wall behind the couch in the loungeroom. It had a .22, a 12guage and a 4/10 hanging on it. Whenever my old man went duckshooting, he would just grab the shells out of the hallway cupboard and grab the gun off the wall. These days, theyre all locked in certain weight safes, with the ammo locked seperatly, then the room there kept in is locked as well......
And who had donkey kong?? remember double screen donkey kong?? how awesome was that!!
And i had a commodore 64 and all my schoolmates were jeluous!!
I remember getting caught by the fisheries guy at the time, back in the 80's, i was about 12 or 13 years old, walking along the river banks shooting ducks on my own, my old man was in the boat fishing somewhere, and the fisheries guy made me take the shells out of the gun, and walk back to the camp!!
Imagine a 12 year old walking the banks with a loaded 12 guage shotgun these days.....or even worse, shooting ducks!!!

When I was in primary, I used to ride my bike to school, 10km round trip every day. During summer I would wear an ice cream container on my head for magpie protection. My dog (Blacky, because she was black) would follow me to school and wait next to my bike until home time, the school maintenance guy would put water out for her and let her in his shed if it was hot or raining.
A mate and I would often take our bows to school, after school we would ride our bikes along the fire trail back to my house, shooting (or trying to shoot) rabbits along the way.
As a kid most of my weekends were spent in the bush, if there was no fencing or slashing to do a mate and I would take off Saturday morning and not come home until Sunday night, the only survival equipment we carried was my old single shot 22, a pocket knife and a box of matches. We knew no boundaries in those days, everyone in the district new you by name and if you got up to no good you could expect a good whopping and everyone in town would now about it, but at the same time everyone looked out for you. You could count on you neighbours like family and no one locked their doors.

Those days are gone now; I know my kids will never know the freedom I had as a kid.:(
And to think that was only 20-25 years ago, what’s it going to be like in another 20 years?:(

Donkey Kong, Oil Panic... too flash for me back then and way to expensive a toy to own myself. Played away on my mates ones though. Back in 'the time'

I recall the rise of pacman and space invaders over the once powerful empire of pinball. Pinball parlours were considered a bit suss by my mob so us kids would sneak in there and wonder at all the cool people. you could play for hours on one 20c piece on the pinnies if you were any good and you did your best to do that as 20c was a fiar bit of cash.

Haha good on you Nev, plenty of respect for our vets and armed forces.

One thing is true for the younger folk these days is that opportunity for younger folk to buy property or have their own home is steadily vanishing or becoming harder and harder to achieve.

I remember what a test of patience it was for me to listen to baby boomers complaining how their 3rd property they were renting out and negative gearing was a drama and that they could not afford to upgrade their Harley to a newer model, hell it still is a test!

That said, with the mining boom in WA it's possible for a teenager fresh out of high school with minimal academic achievement to get a three year mine traineeship earning 60, 000 pa. Anybody remember living throught the recession of the eighties? Stuff all opportunity around then. Even harder times back then.

Some of you younger blokes have commented upon rise in dangerous living? Don't get the idea that there was no street violence back in you dad's day... If anything fights and violence was a more accepted part of life back then than it is today. If you had a problem with a bloke, it was perfectly acceptable to go out on the flat and sort it out with your fists. Pub fights and brawls abounded and security was not pretty, you played up and you got belted, no 'chicken wings' or armlocks to escort you outside...

Oh yeah PacMan.
I still have the original handheld version of Pacman and the unit it's self is sort of shaped like PacMan after he's been through a press.:P
Must dig that out again and stick some fresh batteries in it.
Mmm I wonder how much that would fetch on Fleabay?????:D

And not to forget the arcade games like 1942 :D

"And to think that was only 20-25 years ago, what’s it going to be like in another 20 years?"

That's right on the money Clemo, and a sad scary thought. :(

You 'aint wrong, I have a 3 yr old, I worry what sort of freedoms he will have left by the time he reaches 30+.

Hood, that Pacman games probably worth a small fortune to someone out there.
I recall the first 'video' game I had plugged into the telly and had two paddles with games like tennis and squash but everything was boxes, squares and lines and it made this horrible 'Bleep' sound whenever you hit the block bouncing around the screen. It also had a huge handgun that you could plug in and use as a target shooting game, this thing was like the size of a 44. That was the only cool thing about it. Plus the games were all in black and white.

How many of you remember TAB cola, KB kegs and getting stickers in with poppa's and the piece de resistance chewy with a pack of footy cards, that cost about 20C for a pack not $1-2 like nowdays, less the chewy?

Thwack!

Im only young being 20 but i think its bs what teens these days have got and the same with the lil kids. its unreal.

Im from a small country town in NZ which has just rushed out of the early 80's and now is a metro hole.
My family didnt have a computer till i was 11 and i didnt have a tv game till i was 18. I use to run around the yard with my air gun and cross bow and willow bow with nails on the ned of the arrows trying to hunt the local sparrows and the neighbours use to laugh and think it was a hoot. I was only like 4 at the time. My mates and i use to go eeling at night down at the local creeks, now try doing that these days being a 10 year old! I use to go possum trapping with my old man and use to help collect fire wood and i use to get a bit of money but we where never well off. I never asked for a computer game or anything as i didnt realy care for them. I remember the milk man who use to come and he would through out lollies to all us kids on the street while we wated for our glass milk bottles, im guessing today he would get locked up for that. lol ill never for get when plastic milk bottles ones came out all the oldies where worried as they use to swap there glass ones to get filled. Im glad how my family brought me it gave me alot of recpect and i enjoyed it! I know when i have a family of my own im going to bring them up the "old way" or should i say the way with respect.

Might see what I'd get for PacMan, who knows might be enough to buy a new bow:D

Oh yeah I remember the Ads on TV for Tab cola ;)

And what about the pack of lollies that were called 'FAGS' then they went and changed it to 'FADS' for two reasons 1) it was descriminator to wards gays  and 2) it surposedly encouraged young kids to take up smoking :o but hold on they were still able to sell them under a new name.

I also remember when Tip Top Bread was deliverd much the same as the milk in glass bottles were, use to be able to scam a free finger bun:D no such luck these days:(

Does anyone remeber the fake cigarete lollies that where actaully chocolate rolled in paper like a rolly and packaged in teh foil and card like camel cigaretes? I used to love them things.

It wasn't just 'FAGS' either remeber that 'Scallywags' used to be called 'Gollywogs' till some brain surgeon thought it was offensive to non-whites. My kids don't even know what a Gollywog is and I remember having a toy one when I was about 3 or 4, everyone had one.
