G,day Guys. I'm looking for a Recurve in the $500-$600 dollar range or lower. I'm currently shooting an Internature Trophy hunter. I have been shooting a Samick Volcano a bit and like the bow as well. recently i had a chance to fire the Bear Cheyene as well which was a nice bow but it felt like it was stacking at my 26" draw. I'm after a bow purley for hunting with a draw weight of 50# @ 28". I would also consuder good quality second hand gear as well. Anyone have any thoughts?

Hmmm :P
NOt really a Tradition but the Reflex or Hoyt Game Getter is a good bow to shoot though it doesnt meet my needs when im out hunting so it just stays dismantled in my backpack Lol

I've actually shot the Game master which was nice but a bit long for my liking. I was seriuosly considering the tradtech titan but the cost is a bit high for me.

Exactly I know what you mean about being long :P
I don't like a bow to drag me down,
Reason i shoot compound is because i can get into tight places, Small crevises and other small areas of cover and still be able to draw it back and take a shot that i can always count on :)

Talk to a few of the other boys on here, just look in trad forum and list the names that are always posting kills with them and quiz them about it mate :)
They'd be more than happy to recruit another trad shooter :P hahah

outback preditor, how long did it take you to get the checkmate hunter 2 from the USA?

Look up RER Bows at www.rerbows.com/index.htm, ask if he has any instock bows close to the specks your after - they are up to $100 cheaper and 9 months quicker to get

My RER Arroyo cost me a tad under $600 including shipping , exchange rate and credit card fee's at 85 cents in a US $ - Best static recurve I have shot

Alternativly look up Glenn Newell of Newell Bows on this website , he may make you a bow in your price range , don't know for sure how much , talk to him they are worth it .

Chekmate hunter II is a surprisingly high quality bow and for the price I don't think you can beat it. I have the Chekmate hunter II in 51#@28" and it is a very smooth shooting and fast bow. It is a bit on the long side with 62" AMO and the grip has been said to suit larger hands but of course you could probably get the grip and AMO custom to suit your needs.

I would also ask them to thin down the grip a little.

I liked the 62" AMO because I have slightly longer draw and you can draw the 62" out to 32" without stacking. I would advocate these bows, they perform much better than their price tag suggests. I have heard there is a waiting list for some chekmate bows due to the high demand for them....

Thanks for all the help guys. Still havnt found a bow yet. Checkmate bows have a wait of 8months at the moment, the same for RER bows, and unfortunately the shipping from RER was going to be about $150US. I have been seriously considering the Predator bows as they are available here is Aus. Or else I will look around for a good second hand bow.

Excelpoint,
I have a trad tech titan and I'm very happy with it. If you can scratch up the extra coin, it will probably be the last recurve you will ever want to buy.

I'm amazed at the cost of shipping for RER bows , they charged me $65.00 US early last october to ship mine over . It took 15 working days . Perhaps a takedown would be cheaper to ship from o/s .

Put one on your wish list , mine is absolutly fantastic . Another mate has a RER Vortex and its a ripper aswell

Predator Hunter Bows are now only $650. Reduced from $750. There is literally no stack from 26'' to 34'' draw! I shot a 57# yesterday and found it much easier to draw than a 50# PSE Longbow.

Thanks for all the reply guys. I finally settled on a bow and it should be here this week. Its a Great Plains Palo Duro. 54#@28" and 60" AMO. Heavy cocobolo and rosewood accents. I looked at a heap of bows but just kept comming back to this one. I've had a FF string made for it from Jeffro and will be shooting GT Traditionals or Carbon Express Heritage shafts, not sure on broadheads yet but I do have some VB's comming from Howie for some bunny bustin and stump shooting.

Nice bow brother. The grip and shelf looks good - should shoot where you point it.

Enjoy the good times.
