Couple of thumper reddies there mate.
Fishing is my fav hobby.
Usually fish 2 days or so a week (lachlan river is virtually on my door step.)
Sadly alot of carp, be a 4-1 ratio of carp to natives.
Fishing really slows over cooler months.
So hence why i want to start bowhunting. Can be hunting season then :)
My parent have recently got a cabin at lake eucumbene so plan to try my hand at trout soon also.

nice size red fin mate, the lakes in canberra are full of them but i have never caught them that big.
WOW, awesome reddies there. How big is the biggest? My biggest is 2.5pound. Ive caught heaps that size but never been able to better it.
For me its a case of what do you do when your not fishing??.....hunting!lol
Lately havnt had time for either though.
Lovely yella there too. (callop to south aussies).
I have too many hobbies. I dont have near enough time to partake in 1 of them, lat alone all of them.
Fishing,
Hunting,
Photography, (especially lightning photography)
These are by far my 3 favourites past-times.
Here is my favourite fish photo. Its my personal best murray cod. 90cm and 24pound. Unfortunately it was caught out of season while i was chasing yellowbelly which are most active when the weather is warming up. Like nearly all of my cod though, it was released.

yer fishing is great when you cant be out hunting,
we get the odd trout around but theres heaps of carp if you keep going down further away from mylor,
the reason there so big is because the river is so hard to access and most people dont bother, but we bring along the seceteres and cut holes through the black berries just to get to these fella's :D,
the biggest one ive caught was 52cm and about 2k's +,
i just catch them on home made scented plastics(secret formular:P;)),
im might have ago at carp soon as i ve seen some that would weigh 5-10kg's there bloody huge:eek:,
thanks anyway,
cheers, jono
happy hunting and for those you do it happy fishing ;)

nice mate! im still to catch one of them:D
mate the old carp are good fun try fishing for them on light spin tackle or a fly fod but use corn kernals for bait. you can buy flys that emble corn kernals aswell. corn is like the gun bait and if they dont bite you throw maggots in the water then try with the corn kernals. ive had many ocarp smash my gear and give me a run for my money on the old corn kernal. fishing and hunting are equal first in my hobby list followed by motorcross. where i live thats all there is to do... hunt fish ride oh and eat i love that too but it tastes better if you know you earned it.
Nic e going there Jono.
thay are certainly much bigger tehnmy largest redfin which I caught some 14-15yrs ago:(
And as for heaps of redfin inth lakes at Canberra Mmmmmmmmm
I spent 5.5yrs living there and fished the lakes all tooften and NEVER caught one redfin but hundreds of stinking carp.
But I did find a small fresh water cray near hoppers crossing once. Let him go of course.
I'm heading out in the next couple of days to try and catch a few salmon now that the weather has gotten a bit wild this weekend.

Carp are so underated.Very fun to catch and good fighters on 6lb-8lb line and 2-4kg rods.
I have NEVER caught carp on corn. Not from lack of trying
Throw on live shrimp and I catch plenty.
Largest so far is 73cm
Shrimp are plentyful where i fish so maybe it is different as id say it would be a large food source for my local fish species.
Other fish i have caught at home are silver and golden perch, murray cod although we dont get montster ones.Even the odd river blackfish.

fishing can be a little repetive at times..

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff50/exvic/IMGA0235.jpg
A lot of these were jigged with a bare 9/0 just under the boat..sort of gets boring after a while..;)
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff50/exvic/100_0469.jpg
i go down to tamwoth pretty often and the peel river runs virtually thru the middle of town so i normally take a rod when i go there i used to use worms but havent really caught any significant numbers on worms then an old timer said use corn kernals so i did and now i regularly catch carp down there. but i guess where ever you go its different like up here in armidale they like shrimp aswell so i guess it depends on the location.
sight fishing for carp is great fun using fly fishing gear, wearing polaroid sunglasses you can spot them, any fly works as long as you put it near there nose. best i have done is around the 10 pound mark. also like flicking soft and hard body lures when holidaying on the coast.

Yes Yes Howie, very funny.
Actually my receding hair line is due to stress. All this hunting and fishing is very stressful stuff. ;)
I will be out your way Friday, hope we can catch up.

A fellow motorcyclist. I enjoy a little more modern machinery. 07 wr450 for the off road duties, and a 99 zxr400 for road race, had an 05 R1 but recently gave up the road riding.
Mountain biking, camping and anything outdoors.
When not hunting I enjoy shooting ABA/3d to keep my archery skills up, and are about to aquire my first rifle and so another hobby gets added to the list. Actually finding time to go hunting is becoming increasingly difficult. There are not enough days in the weekend,.......or enough dollars in the paypacket.

Hiking is good I like getting out with the whole family, I take my 8 month old son in baby carrier backpack. Went to Cradle mountain a couple of weeks back. It has great trails and wildlife, a must see I reckon. Fishing is good too but as with deer stalking I am not that good at it :).

lol thats what i said when i caught it! its a funny looking thing, i took it into the fisheries because i didnt know what it was, they rang me back and said it was a johnstons weedfish and its the biggest one ever caught in australia :o, the thing that makes it funny is that it was only 33cm :P, but at the age of 6 you have to be happy with that :D, they look like an eel cross gurnard:confused:...
