Sparra I have never found a better stringer than the dog collar. If you're right handed you place the dog collar around your right ankle, place the bottom limb in the collar and step through the bow. I would never step through the bow and place the limb on the leg and string it as that method will only twist the limb or even break it, when you use the dog collar you can't twist the limb. I've used one for 30 years, it's the commerical stringers I don't trust...Glenn...

You just have to make sure that the pressure point is on the handle section of the riser. For a longbow I only ever use the push pull method.
What brand is s/h recurve you bought Sparra?...Glenn...

Gaday Glenn...Its a centreline..56#@28...i know nothing about recurves but it was fairly cheap and i have been looking to get one for a while so now its a learning curve....the thing im concerned about is when shooting off the shelf don't your flectches make contact and effect arrow flight??

Sparra I shoot feathers of the shelf of all my trad bows with no bad effect. But it will be trial and error.

Sparra if the shelf is cut straight across the riser and square to the riser, you could apply a rug rest above the povit point on the handle but not all the way across the riser and leave a small channel against the window to give the feathers extra clearance. Sometimes when you can get an arrow to leave the bow cleanly try the cock feather in, it works sometimes...G.enn...

Sparra,
Using Feathers?? Vanes can work too, a bit more fiddle, my humble opinion, off shelf use feathers.
I assume you're RH, if you have probs & your cock feather is at 9 o'clock ,you might like to try placing it at twelve ie straight up on top, been shelf shootin' for yonks, fletch mine at 9o'clock, only drama at times is if the quills are too thick, if so I fletch it around twelve or so. This palces the bottom feathers, one outside the shelf & one in the "v" of shelf & side plate. When I say 12, I mean anywhere in that area that gives you clearance. Some turn their cock feather to 3 o'clock ie against the side plate, this can also be a remedy, but if quills are thick cock feather can deflect off the plate. As Adam said it could come down to trial & error.
Good Luck!

Well i just went out and shot a few arrows and the best flight was with the cock at 12 with the right hand fletch in the vee so i guess thats how i'll fletch up the new ones...all i need to do now is to work out the sighting and im in business(used to compound, sights and release aid)but even after the 40 or so arrows i just shot i was grouping a little better if you can call a 12" group at 20m better....never mind,as they say, practice makes perfect so i can only improve....oh yeah and there great fun.
The dog collar worked a treat Glenn....

I have tried a tip-tip, and limb-tip and it is the latter I prefer by far. dead easy and can't see it twisting the limb at all.
