Hi all
I am looking at taking a trip to byrock for me this is a 12-13 hr drive from geelong. My question is for those who have been there is it worth the drive and is there any where else closer that could be just as good.

I shot(rifles) there a long time(14yrs) ago on a pay to shoot property which was across the road from the pub. It had a lot of goats but not many pigs. It was pretty dry even back then. Mates of mine still go up that way and say there is still good numbers of goats around but a lot of farmers are mustering them now as they fetch good money. There are certainly area's closer that are just as good, proberly better but you need access to properties etc.

Hi mate, i live 40minutes away and do not hunt down there. I think doggers pull a few out and certainly there are goats sprinkled everywhere but it isn't very nice county (Thick and monotenous). However, where we say a district there is alotof variation within it. Towards Brewarrina is totally different than towards Coolabah etc. It is raining so thin quantities of game will be spread out even further. My opinion is it may be worth the trip for fun and memories as it is atmospheric country out here but there may be better hunting opportunities elswhere than Byrock 2008

I used to hunt regularly on the Kelly's Property at Byrock when I lived at Bree. I agree its tough going with dawn and dusk on a tank the only real way to hunt that area. Hard to stalk too with cat-heads everywhere. I did remember hooking up with the Cobar boys for a hunt about an hour south of Cobar on the Kidman Way (towards Lake Cargelligo) in the foothills there were goats and pigs but hard work to find. If I were you I'd talk to some of the Wollongong crew on here, they seem to be experiencing a mini-boom in the deer population down that way. :)

Being new to bowhunting having that access to properties is the problem. I will probably still go even if it is just for the experience. I can go fairly cheaply also with a few going.

Seconded grizzlypaul. My mate was there and only saw a few goats. Not what it used to be.
