I have had the pleasure of meeting Ian Fenton and shot a few traditional 3D rounds with him, now that fella can shoot. He even layed on his back and grouped his arrows on the target at 20 yards. His ability with his recurve bow is nothing short of freakish. He is a gentlemen and all round great bloke.
Who else knows or has met great shots..............

Allan Podlick (Grange Bowmen Brisbane) - hands down best shot I've ever seen.

Can pick up your bow and shoot it better than you after one shot.. no matter what the bow is.

A true testament to the pay off of MANY hrs on the range.

Byron Ferguson for a demonstration on TV took a wedding ring off one of the female audience members and set it up at about 25. He then put an arrow through it with his long bow without the arrow touching the inside of the ring. His book "be the arrow" is also worth a read...cheers..;)

I first met Ian Fenton in 1975, he is probably one of the best shot Australia has ever seen. I saw him hanging upside down from a tree branch and grouping arrows into a 20 yard target at night. Ian wrote a stroy for a hunting magazine about bowhunting pigs in the Macquarie Marches in the early
70's which inspired me to go to an archery club in Brisbane and take lessons in shooting a bow with the aim of being a bowhunter. The club was the Grange Company of Archers and you will never guess who was the first bowhunter I ever met who was a member of the club, Alan Podlich. Pod is a great bloke and a good shot with any bow and a very prolific bowhunter...Glenn...

Yep remember that mag Glenn...think it was called "Outdoors"...the stories of Ian Fenton and another bloke, Dallas Conway knocking over the boars in the Maquarie Marshes is what inspired me to first pickup a recurve, a 50lb Red Wing Hunter that I bought from a fellow running a business from his home in Panania. Have also met Ian and he truly is natures gentleman..;)

Sorry for the mis spelling Johnno...Byron has some great tricks...shooting the top off a coke bottle and emptying into glass before hitting target...or hitting 2 ballons with 2 arrows with 1 shot, seated with feet holding bow...awesome

Johnno, you're right it was called Outdoors. It was a good mag in it's day. If I went through some of my boxes I think I still have it. I remember reading one story of Ian and Gary Leach I think it was, they went their seperate way in the morning out in the Marches and Gary shot 22 pigs and Ian shot 25 pigs before 10:00 that morning. Dallas Conway did a lot of bowhunting in those days as well, I never met Dallas, I think he lived at Warren...Glenn...
