View Full Version : DON'T HUNT NATIVES - posters

Luke
15-06-08, 12:44 PM
Stemming from recent discussion about the shooting of native animals (particularly roos). It was suggested that we create some posters to be placed at point of sale of archery/hunting gear to inform people of the laws surrounding the targeting of native species.

Ok, so I put together a few ideas and below is what those members who gave feedback have decided is a good poster format.

Each poster has below it a link to download it in HIGH RES PDF version that will print at high quality. There is an A4 and A3 version of each poster.

The A3 files are up to 13mb's, the A4 are less.

We have had Rinaldo offer to print off a whole heap in FULL COLOUR free of charge and are discussing with him how we can get these out to members. You can of course print your own (this is why I've uploaded the PDF files for you). If you do, please print in colour to take advantage of the full impact of the design.

Would members be willing to pay C.O.D. postage so Rin does not have to fork out all the cost of mailing it to you as well? Perhaps as little as 4 or 5 dollars?

It would be fantastic to see these put around the place at as many points of contact with the general hunting/archery populace as possible. Some members have said they'll be putting them up at their clubs and ranges.

Can we have some people post their names here to volunteer to approach their local archery/hunting shops as well? That way we wont have 30 people going to the one shop and hassling them ;)

We can also perhaps list the shops who have put the poster up as a way of saying thanks for supporting bowhunters, helping to protect our sport, educate the public and preserve our native animal species.

Thanks to all who contributed to the creation of these posters, I'm sure it will be a positive step towards the eduction of new hunters to our sport.

cheers,

Ah, I understand "don't" Nev but imagine a deer or pig was in a picture crossed out in the same locations...

I'd think it was some kind of joke to cross out (shoot) the pictured animal.

Luke
15-06-08, 09:28 PM
I don't understand what you're saying.

It means it's "off the list", "out of the question", "not an option".

Yes Luke, I know what you mean but it may not be perceived that way.

Imagine a poster of the same format but it has "Conservation Hunting" written with a picture of a goat crossed out.

If you were in a hunting shop and saw this but didn't read the writing, would you reckon it meant don't shoot the goats?

Luke
15-06-08, 09:53 PM
Ok, I can now see what you're getting at.

As in "we don't want X (whatever it is pictured)".

I guess that's why the writing is there and nice and bold for everyone to see.

I suppose if you're not keen on using the ones with the circle in them, you could use the last offered one of the close up of the roo.

I'd advise checking with your principal first mate.

Personally a word in their ear about the behaviours of these kids might be enough.

I think it's best the posters are kept to key points of contact like archery/hunting clubs and shops only.

Much thanks to Admin of these sites for helping us with this campaign.

I have printed the first batch of posters, I have only printed them in A4 size as I asked a few shops what size they preferred and they all went with the A4 size, A3 was a little big as far as they were concerned. I will start shipping them out to those who PM,d me there is no charge for the posters as I managed to get them printed for free. The only charge will be for postage otherwise it will cost me a fortune.:o

The posters are almost photograpic quality and look really great.
Johnno and I are going to distribute them locally. Marcus from Urban archery has requested some to display in his shop, thanks mate.

It is great to see some plain common sence. The law is the law. The only gripe I have is being involved with alot of professional culls in the past, the waste of the carcase is what gets me. Harvest from nature, please be respectful.

If this is the Rin I know, are ferrets native ?

I have strategically located them.
1 set above the broadheads
1 set next to my mount that everyone looks at.
and 2 sets above either bow rack in the range.

Officially mate the only pure blood dingos are on Fraser Island. The majority of "dingos" you see nowadays are interbred with feral domestic dogs - sadly.

I think some of the sentiments expressed in these recent threads defeat the purpose of these posters.

http://www.aussiebowhunter.com/showthread.php?t=15384

http://www.aussiebowhunter.com/showthread.php?t=15243

Instead they reveal many bowhunters are quite willing to kill natives for sport, as opposed to the argument we are supposed to be protecting them by eradicating their introduced predators.

I really dont know what thrill you would get out of killing an animal as harmless as a wombat, possum or wallaby as opposed to a feral boar? Nothing could make us look worse. Would anyone shoot a pelican, or a sea eagle if it was legal? I don't see much native at all around here, even common species and I would be buggered if I would be killing it just because I was allowed to and there was nothing else around.

Don't be sucked into the propaganda that killing a native is immoral. It's illegal yes and I respect that. I've never killed a native animal on purpose (a mammal anyway).

They're just animals dude. Just like any other animal. They just happen to be protected by law.

There's a difference between having an interest in killing something and actually killing it.
