hey guys

so it just happens that i might be going over to new zealand for a hunt at the end of this year. i have heard some great things about doctari safaris and was wondering if anybody else has been there or heard anything good about the place. if anyone has been there what was it like?.
also do the bucks rut the same time as in australia and are they in hard antler as the same time as australia?.

thanks

I was there a couple of months ago and the rut was just finishing then. The guy who wrote the article in this months BDU mag was there at the time, he had previously shot a doe from the hut door so there are a few deer about. I saw nine deer the day I was there only one buck. There are heaps of turkey's, goats, pigs, hares and rabbits. The terrain is pretty easy and quite open. Give Steve a call he will give you an honest answer to your questions. Check out the website there are a few decent bucks on there.

Nah didn't see any pigs as I didn't head into the area where they hang out. I know of a few OK spots you can hunt for free down that way if your interested.

I was there in March.
It's a top spot. We didn't go for the pigs.
Theres plenty of them here.
Top of our list was Turkeys. You don't get to hunt them here.
We did well on them. You can see our pics on Steve's web site in the Turkey section.
There is heaps of game there.
You'll have a ball and Steve is a top bloke.

They were in hard antler and with the ladies in March.
So I would say very similar. Although we didn't hear any grunting.
We saw heaps of them. I had a couple of close calls but no shots offered.
There's more small game there than you can poke a stick at.
You can see deer and all sorts of critters from the accomodation.
The country is open with choked gullies and quite easy to hunt.
