hey there,
i have been told i may have a focusing problem when i shoot, meaning i cant focus well directly on the pin i need, so to over come this problem i thaught i should try out a single pin sight, i was thinking something good in the HHA range... or something else? any suggestions?
anyway if you use or have been using a single pin sight what do/did you think?
any help would be appreciated,
regards jono

Not being a smart ass but try concentrating on what you are trying to hit and how you are doing it everything else will fall into place.;)

Used a HHA single pin for a year or two, still have it and using it on my heavy bow. I really like the idea of a adjustable sight and shot some nice game with it. It is much easier to focus on just one pin. But there are some downfalls you might wish to address. One is making sure you adjust the pin prior to the shot, example - i was practicing on my sand target at 50 yards and walked down to 20 yards to have a few shots, arrows go high when you do that. Also can be hard if your whistling foxes and you have set it for say 20 yards and he pulls up at 30 yards. But if stalking and the animal is 25 yards away, you set it for exactly 25 yards, no splitting pins and some guestimating.
I found the vast majority of game I shot was 20 yards and under, so I just left if at 20 and if it was further, I made the adjustment. With some practice you will be able to fine tune it and I wish you the very best bud......howie

I use a HHA too.

Have exactly the same comments and method of using it as Howie. Use a rangefinder and you will find it hard to miss up or down at any sighted range.

mate it might just me being a cheap skunge here but it seems alot of money to waste on the chance that it "might" help ur accuracy??? if it does help then money well spent but what if u still can't concentrate and it has nothing to do with ur pins? IMO if u want to buy one take all all ur pins bar 1 on ur current sight and see if it does help (leave 20m pin for example) ... if u find u still can't concentrate then u might of just saved fair a bit of cash? if it does help but the proper sight...

worth a try maybe...?

Thats what i done evil, and for similiar reasons. I took my sights out, and left one, which is sighted in at 30metres.
WHen ive mastered that i will start putting the others back in.
having said that, my bow is now for sale. When i buy a new bow i will probably go for a single sight straight up.

thanks guys, and e-t i would do it as its a good idea but i dont got a bow at the moment(its on its way) and i need a new sight anyway, i dont mind about the price side of it because i am buying it from the states and could sell it for same as i what paid because they go for around $200 over here. i am gonna buy a range finder also, so if i cant shoot well with all this top gear i know i need to go to archery for a while .
thanks again ;)

Go with whatever sight you think suits your needs I rekon.

That said, I couldn't think of anything worse than having to move my sights as a stag has moved from 40m, in to 25m.... there's enough to get right without adding this extra procedure.

I too have had drama's focussing on multi pin sights, and I have found that it was because of the brightness of the pins. They seemed to 'gell' together and look light starry headlights. A heap of new sights are going for these ultra bright pins, which to me doesn't work at all.

The sight I use has less fibre optic in each pin, so it's not as bright :)

It's not that hard, you can adjust the sight with your release aid still in the D-loop. I actually find it helps keep focused and can reduces panic/buck fever.

i had the same problem with a trophy ridge sight i once had, but after getting the toxonics i have had no problems.

Have a look at the viper single pin sights if your buying from the states, i had a hha but i reckon the vipers heaps better, really well built, comes in heaps of camo options and you can deck it out with a sight cover, light, lens and sun shade for around $200. just another option worth looking at.

When I was shooting Compounds I always shot a Top Gun slider single pin sight. I had marks on the pin gauge for the distances i wanted. I tried various multi pin sights(trophy ridge etc) but kept coming back to the single pin sight. Never had a problem adjusting it to the animal as it moved. It was very quick and easy to adjust. This is the one I used. Its the 9th one down

Haresplitter

I have been using the earlier version of that HHA sight for a couple of years with no problems. I have a different approach then most as I set the pin to 12 meters and leave it fixed, I never move it whilst hunting that way there is no chance I have it set to the wrong distance as an animal moves. If the critter is beyond 35-40m I stalk closer or let the critter go till next time, bow hunting for me is about the ability to stalk in close and take an effective shot. The other thing I like about a single pin in the center of a circle is difficult to explain. I have a large hole in my peep and I line the inside circle of the peep up with the outside circle of the sight guard which puts the pin in the dead center. I find it very easy to draw and anchor this way, also the large peep hole allows me to shot closer to dark. Basically I line two circles up with a pin in the center.

how do you one pin sight users find them for whistling foxes in cos you don't know what distance they will be at?

I have used single pin sights for years and find it quite suitable for my needs. My latest sight is a King Cobra. I bought it and another from the states (sorry aussie shops) for $70 each landed at my door. Quite rugged and bright in the pin.

Here is a link to one on ebay. All you have to do is find a seller that ships internationally.

how do you one pin sight users find them for whistling foxes in cos you don't know what distance they will be at?Preperation is the key to knowing how far certain land marks are etc and having a good idea of the hold over or under for different distances. I used to have mine set on just over 20m for general walking around. On the compound I was shooting there wasnt a lot of diference in hit point from 10 through to about 35m, a little hold over or under was all that was needed but like anything its what you get used to.
