Gday

I have a solo goat hunt planned for a full day on friday but i just saw the weather forecast and its ment to be pretty heavy rain all friday and saturday:(. i dont mind hunting in the rain with mates but where i hunt goats the country gets quite steep and im sure it will be fairly slippery. what im worried about is slipping and hurting myself while im on my own and there isn't any phone reception out there. i'll pack a bandage, is that all i will need? and what else could happen besides slipping?

any replies would be good and wish me luck;):D

thanks dan.

Instead of worrying about that best you stay home and knit something or rearrange your sock draw or something..
Princess you have a 10,000 times more chance of dying or getting seriously hurt in the car on the way down there.just ask me. and if you get hurt well it will give you something to write about.

Mate the rain is the go, bush goes soft under foot , your scent goes to the ground, there is a natural noise covering the sound of your steps......and the critters just love hiding under under shelter out of it, cause they're not that keen on a wet bum either........tog up in some decent gear and enjoy the day.

Where you finding this many goats around caslemaine, not sneeking about 20-25 k's my way are ya' ?

Cheers

windknot, the rain does sound like the go.

yeah i hunt these goats around here, only i have permission to shoot them on this property though:D every now and then the farmer or his friends will see a mob while driving through the paddocks and they seem to shoot the biggest billies in the mob:( but thats not very often.

where abouts do you hunt around here? im not trying to take any secret spots but i thought there weren't many goats around here?

Actually, skin isn't waterproof.

But I won't bother arguing about that

Enjoy the hunt.

Me and my cuz got a 3 day pack-hunt coming up soon, I'm just hoping it doesn't start pouring on us

Hey chief,

On the serious side, I carry an Epirb. It's a satellite tracking system that will alert jets, police, SES, pretty much every emergency channel in the world that you are in serious life threatening danger. You can only use it as a matter of life and death, but a broken leg etc in hard country with no reception could easily turn into one of those situations. Look into it. Epirbs are about $300 bucks but are well worth it especially in Summer with the snakes.

I pack a full first aid kit when hunting Goats.

Inflatable splints for the leg, from ankle to hip, and full arm, triangle and compression bandages, needle/cotton and a couple of womens sanitry pads to stem any bleeding.

There are also two thermal blankets, mirror, waterproof matches, lighter, ropes and pulley to get out of deep Gorges (and to hoist up carcasses for dressing in the field) and I always take my Next G phone, which works in all my hunting properties.

It's not just the thought of getting hurt, but to also appease the property owner by letting them know that if the proverbial hits the fan, I have taken some steps to protecting myself on his/her property.

Had a couple of slips on my Goat property and some of them were a bit sobering.

Luckily my pack was soft enough to take most of the force out of the fall.
