Its has been a while for me. Dont think id had a full strenght beer since i last went hunting with Shane. So when one of my mates had his bucks night on Saturday last i was feeling pretty bloody ordinary at 5.30am when another mate turned up to go out for a sunday hunt.
Its also been a while between posts of camels for me on here so i figured its time i got back on that wagon as well!
Cause its cold now its hard to find them and we did a lot of kms before finally getting a stalk on 2 females and really good big bull in his prime. Unfortunately they got the drop on us and started ambling off slowly. Rather than try and cut them off on foot (you just cant, they move too quickly over broken ground) we took the car round in a big loop and positioned ourselves for an ambush. Well i did - i think my mate didnt realise how quickly they travel so he was still messing about back at the car as the bull came ambling past me. They weren't stopping so I led on the bull and hit him hard thru the chest. A little far back and a little low but got the lungs ok. The arrowhead came out the other side which is good. They were milling around and I called to my mate to try and drop one of the cows - cause we had the eskys for meat.
He tried to lock one in but because they werent standing still for a second and kept turning he passed up the shot. Good decision - especially for a bloke who is hanging out to drop his first one!
Then all of them took off again back up the way we had come. Even with the arrow in his lungs and blood going everywhere the big fella didnt look like slowing down much. They would have done at least 2kms before I managed to get in front of him and smashed him again as he went past and he dropped on the spot.
Here his is - as good a bull as you find out here, wouldnt perhaps have scored that well (need to be a bit older to get that really big head) but fully in his prime and im guessing around the 900kgs mark (they go 1000kgs max). Note the shagging mane and swollen neck- winter and mating season.

By that time i felt a whole lot better and was actually pretty chirpy on the way home! Nothing like a hunt and a run to clear the hangover!
cheers
