the hunter becomes the hunted

the long drive was finally over as we pulled up to the station gates at 5:30 am.
A hole day and night of driving thanks to my fathers hilux dropping 5th gear half way out there. When ya doin 90km/h 800k's seems to take forever.
anywho we pulled up to the gates early saturday morning expecting a long hard slog in the cattle yards.
As we pulled into the main yards, "broken leg" as its better known i was thrown a knife and an expression- "get in the georgey, your bang tailin". (bang tailing is cutting the exessive hair off a cows tail as a sign its been through the yards) Great i thought, after being awake for the last 36 or so hours the last thing i was is to be running around cutting pissed off cow tails. Well that ordeal was over within 30minutes as i had slipped with a razor sharp knife and near on cut the end of my thumb off. Great way to start the bloody trip. so with me out of the action i decided to go for a walk around in the bush to see if i could smack a cat or a dingo or sumthing alongs those lines.
As i cut off the main track i picked up a cattle pad and decided to follow it, 2 hours later, i was chest deep in stinking roger, bushed, tired and cranky i looked for a fence near by as nearly all fences have a track, when i spotted that heart stopping shape, moving slowly through the black teatree.
YOU BUTEY i thought to myself as i slipped back through the fence and towards the mob of unsuspecting pigs,
dropping my shoes and hat on an ant hill i pulled the video cam out and got a little bit of footage of the mob.
I slowly slipped out from behind my and mound and into the open where my stalk was about to unfold. The small mob of 2 big sows and 7 suckers fed right by me at 13yards. knocking a new legacy i call "the pink panther" i slowly came to my knee and to full draw.
The lead sow walked out from the cover of a tree and looked straight at me. It was now or never and i released the arrow, Hitting her through the front shoulder and exiting the oppisite side hip.
she let out a squeel and took off into the bush.
the second sow, Totally unawares of what had just happend to her mate came over to the arrow that was now sitting on the ground and decided to have a whiff of it.
The hair on her back stood up and a smacked an arrow through the sows shoulders. CRASH CRASH CRASH she went through the bush only to lay down meters from where the other sow lay. What a rush that was.
strolling back to the yards feeling sore and tired i decided to have a power nap, which ended up on my waking up 6 hours later, close to dark and in the middle of no where!
day 2 of the hunt i steered clear of the cattle yards and planned a back pack around a water hole called "ross hole", the biggest water on the property and holds alot of swamp out the back of it.
sneaking around the swamps and backwaters i noticed a BIG boar walking through the water ahead of me. So i dropped my pack and shoes and headed in for a closer look. I had lost the boar i spotted in the black t-tree but stumbled acorss a big spotty boar and 2 sows.
The sows had busted me early on in the stalk but had not notified the boar, so i crept around, looking for a good spot to sneak across the creek and approach the now Snoaring boar.
I found a good little crossing where the wind was strong enough to cover my sounds and scent and still enough cover for me to get close to the boar, and close is what i got! As i got closer i could see the boar was laying on his side with his belly facing towards me, i could see the boar breathing and the dust coming from where he was exhaling into the dirt.
I slowly moved out of the waist deep water and took a knee on the dirt, about 4 yards from the boar.
I drew back, anchored and letta rip burying fletchers deep into the boars brisket.
The boar got up, and screamed away from me, crashing through the water only to expire in the deepest part of a mud puddle it could have!!!
The boar was only young and had not yet developed any decent hooks, But was still a big boar. Between 85 and 100 kgs.
not a very sucsessful trip this time guys but still had a ball and even keener to get closer to these animals!
will post pics at a further date
cheers, D1cky
