View Full Version : Dumb question

I'm embracing bowhunting BIG time and getting a recurve regardless... however, with just only a 'jist' of the sport up my sleeve to date, it seems that the biggest advantage of a compound over a recurve for hunting is being able to hold a sight picture (arrow ready to go) for a long length of time with a compound? while with a recurve (and instimatic shooting) you need to draw and shoot rather quickly?

is this sorta so... ?? opinions appreciated (i'm not trying to start a bow fight - i'm just a honest ignorant novice).

and if so then isn't it easier/better bowhunting then with a compound? as from my hunting experience (rifles/guns) that MOVEMENT of drawing to shoot (instamatic) a recurve is gonna give less chance (more fright/notice to game) to pip the prize (kill the beast?) than a static long hold that a compound allows much more readily.

being able to hold for a long time certain has advantages when it comes to waiting for a good shot... or do i need to start doing weights in order to hold back a recurve for a fair length of time (and therefore NOT instamatic shooting?)??

i'm a bit miffed. :? :?:

well.. the dumbest question is the one ya never ask - because you think it's just too dumb (i came close Coach :D  ).

but serious - instant shooting (recurve) against... 'potential' sniping (compound)??

that's what i kinda get as being the major disparity between shooting both bows and being able to hold for a long draw (never done it for real so dunno  ) certainly has it's advantages (eg waiting for game animal's vital area to be visible thru bush)?

movement is surely bad when being stealthy and having to re-draw is 'theoretically' a big disadvantage for a recurve (if with a compound you wouldn't have had to in that situation?).

again.. just working my way (frustrating not out there yet with some feedback and 'practical' queries myself to offer forum) into bowhunting and trying to see thru things from the other side of a keyboard.

thanks coach and anyone.

the best bow is the one you feel most confident with.

a bow is only as good as its worst component.

so if you buy a bow, either compound or recurve make sure it suits you
not your mate and its got all quality gear on it.
and learn to shoot it properly.

and get good arrows too
not cheap no name trash.

i guess it'll all come simple when doing it for real.
