Well yesterday my girlfriend Tara and I went bush on a station in the flinders to have a look for a couple billies each. The reason I took time off work was because a front came through and it was no good for my sort of work anyway so why not tough it out hunting I thought. We camped out there last night and had today hunting. Man oh man was it windy. The tent nearly blew away and we woke up pretty late from lack of sleep to find it misty rain and cold as buggery.

We got our gear together and made it out into the hills before 8am. Some of you might remember a story I put up a while ago now where I said I shot and lost a really good billy I had been after for a couple years now. I was using a slick trick for the first time and I got no penetration what so ever using 80 pounds on my tribute. After giving them the flick now I was using a range of Magnus heads and we found him again still alive and healthy!
Bedded out in the open(always the way)

He was way out in the open and in a mob of about 40 goats so getting close was not going to be easy. After about an hour of watching and waiting he moved into some country I could give a stalk through and I got a shot from a little over 25m. The shot went to low and hit him through the back of his front legs. He wasn’t bleeding much but I managed to keep track of him and watched him bed down up under a cliff about 2 hours later. I got right in on top of him and made one count from 20m steep down hill. I was stoked I had shot and missed this goat 2 years earlier and had chased him around these hills for the past 2 years and now finally after thinking I had lost him on a previous hunt.
Down and out.

This is the second good billy I have taken out the flinders in a week so I hope my luck holds.

I inspected where i had hit him a couple months earlier with simon and it looks like the slick trick just deflected allong the body off of a rib. It was a 30m quartering away shot which should have been fatal.
here is the scar.

After taking photo's and footage of my billy we went for a quick walk over to the springs for a look. We were making our way allong the creek bed when i noticed some goats feeding along the endge of the creek in our direction. The wind was perfect and they were coming right for us. I got the video camera ready and tara got an arrow on the string because there was a decent billy heading our way! Soon he was only 21m away and the silent release of an arrow was followed by a thud as her arrow went through the bottom of the billies heart.

He only made it about 5m from where he was hit and the rest of the mob all fed around us and him for some time longer until they fed out of sight. Got to love the bow hey!
Tara and her first trophy class billy and 4th goat with the bow 31.5 incher.

After removing the horns on her billy we made it to the springs where i washed the used arrows and gave them a quick sharpen just in case something bigger walked out.
The spring was handy for washing arrows.

It was a really good hunt for only a day. We were going to spend two days up there but because we had done so well we decided to let them go and grow for another day as we were happy with our trophys.
Thanks for viewing i'll run a tape over them tomorrow and let you know what the big fella goes.
