.....
Glad I read the whole thread:)
Awsome stuff again guys. Good to see Howie is sticking with the same barber through thick and "THIN". :P (still can't convince Clemo of the benefits)
That old one horn would be a corker with his full rack intact. There is one the same at the place I hunt with Clemo.
Well done lads, some good memories I'm sure :)

Most full grown Billy Goat ears are about 6 inches long and their face (from the horns to the nose) about 14 inches. This will give you something to work off when you view your target through your bino's, see how many times those measurements will stretch across the spread or around the horns to see if he is bigger than the one you have or worthy of taking. After a while, judging a trophy Goat comes easily and takes a few seconds. A good scoring Goat will also have thick horn bases, look for these. Also look for good length in the horn where it sweeps back from the base, a horn that basically grows out to the side will generally score less than a horn that has the same spread but sweeps further back before going out, this is called good horn length. The more twists the better the horn length also.
I would say if he had both horns he'd be in the 41 - 45 inch wide category scoring high 125 to mid 130's. His bases let him down.
I personally would not shoot him as he is a wasted trophy, having only one horn. It is worth keeping him around as he has good genes to pass onto his siblings.
Dale.

thanks for that info dale. howie and i have held of shooting him a few times now as yes we had thought that it would be good if he could spread his genes around a little. we have had much debate about his size and each time we see him he seems to look bigger or smaller. either way he would have been a top goat in his day. we are currently searching for his father.
again thanks guys
good job same that billy only has 1 horn
just wondering how long do goats ussualy live for
well done guys, Always seems to be the way the big ones are broken or to hard to find.

Troy, I am going to defend Clemo, he has hair, I seen 4 hairs on his head only last month when he was visiting. And they were nice hairs, fairly thick at the base, but long and curly - just like you want your goat horns.........LOL Sorry Clemo, couldn't help myself......
