As we approached the olives we found a small group of Fallow...1 smallish chocolate buck...a couple of nice does and 3 or so small yearlings??...seeing as the grass was frozen solid..like us..we couldnt get close without them hearing us..but its good to see a few have returned to our little spot...

Once theyd bolted to the safety of the neighbours yard:mad:...we wandered into the pine windbreak and found a few new scrapes...some fallow scat..and some of the larger scat that im not sure about...although there was heaps of it during the rut...

The droppings are deer, wallaby and wombat.

but its good to see a few have returned to our little spot
Great for you, but I am not sure the olive farmer feels the same way you do about them :)
Now you just have to figure out how to get them in your freezer :)

tree stand or ground blind between his and the neighbours fence might work, they usually have a place where they cross over or under the fence line, set one up near there

Thanks Howie...my tree stand is in another part of the farm where the main trail leads to the main rutting area....but theres several areas where they duck the fence beside the olives...ive tried staking it out ,but so far ive given up before them:rolleyes:

block off or seal up any pop holes, entry/exit holes etc, leaving one area for the deer to cross, if possible. Put your stand there, deer like most animals will take the path of least resistance to get somewhere. They will soon locate the easiest way and bingo, you will be eating bbq'd fallow backstraps

Your a thinking man Howie;)....The bloody greenie cant complain if im "fixin" the fence:P...theres no trees there for a stand..but ill nock up a hide at the base of an olive tree;)

A piece of fishing line tied to the top strand of wire then to the mesh, thus reducing the height of the top wire, as I mentioned previously the path of least resistance, the animals will find it and use it. Good luck special

Put your hide in early, give it a few weeks, the fallow are very wary of changes to their environment and will notice your hide

I hope you nail one :)
